    Happy to hear your tried my idea I posted a few months back, unbelievable how they love the corn. I bought frozen corn on the cob because we don't eat enough fresh veggies.Let it thaw in package a few days,even a week or more when ready to use I scored down the middle of each row to soften even more.
    Love your vids Larry.

    I feed the wigglers Larry's suggestion of oatmeal, cornmeal and egg shells all ground in the blander. Mine are in a bin so each time I add, it's buried in a new corner. Today when I checked, babies, lots of babies. So glad to know I must be doing something right. They also get chopped up veggie scraps but they really go for the mix.

    Been putting cobs in my worm factory for quite some time. The red wigglers will eat it all including the insides of the cobs leaving a hollow shell. Worms love them along with corn meal.

    I have dropped corn cobs in my bin, anything corn is a big hit with these worms. I was experimenting, and dried some corn and ground it into powder. They eat it fast! Any stale cereal made from corn ground up real fine is good too.

    I gave my red worms 2 mango seeds with the shell still covered with fruit so I could split them open and plant the seed inside. They had them cleaned off within 2 days. They didn't even wait for the fruit to rot which was surprising to me. I think they just really love mango.

      Hi I know you posted this 4 years ago and according to “internet rules” I shouldn’t be commenting, but I couldn’t resist. Yes I agree with you, I feed my worms mango slices all the time, they’re gone almost instantly! It’s a great feeling to find something that you know your worms really like.

  • @rack391

    I have been putting a spoon full of Lactobacillus Serum (plenty of videos on how to make it) like every other feeding and the worms seem to really like it and it really also helps to break thing down a lot faster.

  • @DungaLovesBarrels
    @DungaLovesBarrels 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    And if you want your worms to multiply, get your eggs shells, dry them out, grind them up into powder using a mortar and pestle and sprinkle around the worm farm. They have tiny mouths so can't eat big pieces of egg shell but when they're ground up they're really good for their reproduction.

    Many foods will cause this same behavior. A whole banana with the peel slightly cracked will be hallowed out in full of worms in only 2 days, a mango with a slit in the skin will be hallowed out and full of worms also in 2 to 3 days. A pumpkin, same thing. It cooked sweet potatoes, they go crazy. The easiest way to get all the worms to one spot to split a bin is simply don't feed them until they use up most or all of the available food sources, and then add any food they like to one spot in the bin. Hungry worms are going to go crazy for food regardless of what it is.

    Worms like anything starchy. Up to 80% of a corn cob is starch. The glue they use for cardboard is starch-based and why worms like it so much. Rice is another one of their favorites, the cheaper the better.

    Hi Larry! Those are some beautiful worms. I threw a corn cob in mine once only it had on the corn on it. When I went back in a few days all the corn had sprouted. hahaha Oh my experiment with the pool failed because like you said only the Walmart bags work. My bag fell apart. But I love the idea and will try again.

    Hi Larry. The worms are looking great. I'm planning to start a couple of bins soon and will start looking at the Alabama Jumpers and Euros. Have you ever watched the videos of Mat2dong/Home Farm Ideas? He composts with grubs and they sure are speedy! They are breed that don't eat roots so are safe in the garden, but I think I'm in too cold a climate (Ohio) for them to survive. I also want to try your Walmart bags but am intimidated by it. I'd have loved to see your garden in full bloom.

    • @connecticutwormsgardens

      Earthworms are poor composters compared to red worms. Well perhaps poor is not the right phrase, earthworms serve a different purpose and eat a different food source. They don't do well in containers and they are not surface feeders. What Larry showed in this video was European nightcrawlers, those are not the same as standard garden earthworms.

    • @jimmccarley3191
      @jimmccarley3191 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will probably start something here but you need to know. Some worm sellers package worms and place them in a refrigerator to "hold" until they can ship (sell) them out. Some of the worms may be half staved or dried out or just plain dead by the time you get them. Also you dont want your worms cold. If it gets close to freezing they will need some heat. I know some say insulate with newspaper, burlap, straw, etc. but if it is a small bin those worms can "freeze" out. Good luck with the few that survived.

      Wendy Kat There are several reasons why worms would leave the bin, but they won't leave just because the lid is off. Here are a few reasons worms leave :::: lack of food, too wet, too much light. I keep the lid on mine, because they are outside and I don't want raccoons, rats, opossums, or other animals in there eating them. And, I really don't like having fly maggots in there either.
