A beautiful film which lingers long in the memory. Something I noticed - did anyone else? Maxime wears reds, Matthias wears blues. Pretty much all through the film these are the colours they wear. But when they are filmed by Rivette's sister, Erika, for the kiss, she puts Matthias into a red sweater and Maxime into a blue shirt. Matthias 'puts on' Maxime and Maxime 'puts on' Matthias and that changes everything for them both... but especially for Matthias who is the least able to cope with this crisis of loving a Maxime who is leaving him to go to Australia. He is the one most troubled by this realisation that he loves the other. At first I thought I was over-interpreting this red/blue coding but it follows them throughout the film. There are a couple of interesting moments, too: 1. As Matthias is getting ready to go to the party of Rivette's mother (when Erika's film is shown) he asks if Maxime will be there. And then he puts on a pink shirt. But by the time he's actually at the dinner party, he's no longer wearing it - his shirt is kind of white - under his blue denim jacket. An accident of continuity? Or something symbolic? He's not ready to fully 'take on' Maxime. 2. There's also the moment of crisis right before the end, in the nightclub with the lawyer, Kevin. Matthias clearly has a moment of revelation, a realisation during that scene: he ends us running down the street - wearing a jacket which has both blue and red in it. Is he coming to terms with the fact that Maxime is henceforth undeniably a part of his life and his future? At the end, of course, Maxime is in his red t-shirt and Matthias is in his blue denim: learning to love another means letting them be themselves whilst coming to understand them more fully - as they are... Anyway. Perhaps I'm imagining all of this! What do you think?
Awww great observations! Gives me hope that they end up together. I wish Dolan would do a sequel. This movie is hauntingly beautiful and with a great soundtrack!
As dolan said before, there are too many LGBTQ movies with sad ending and he doesn't want to make yet another one of 'em, so be sure that they have a happy ending @@jackiecronin528

I loved this movie. It's very touching and exciting. In my opinion it is Xavier's best movie and one of the best movies I've seen. The script, the directing, the sound track, the shooting, and the acting of all the actors and actresses is excellent and thrilling. I also loved mommy very much. Xavier is a genius. 👏👏
This film is really Dolan at it's best. I have watched all of his works, this is undoubtedly his best. His other works have little flaws somewhere, in stories usually. This one holds the bar high. I loved this movie and Dolan in it is stunning too. (Except for Mommy though.)
This film is quite different compares to some other films about homosexuality and middle age crisis I have watched though they may seem familiar in aspects like beautiful scenes, deep conversation etc. But this is just not the same. I don’t think it’s a general film talking about homosexuality. It’s more on hurts, angst, despair and a feeling that suddenly you don’t feel fine and happy as you used to feel. The confusion of sexual orientation is only a medium for the director to express this blurring melancholy and feeling of loss but is not the purpose of expression. I like it. Everything here is for a sensual and complicated expression. And I like a film when it is not expressing for purpose but take expression as the purpose to create films.
Can someone tell me if i'm crazy or does their French dialect sound different than what you typically hear? I might learn french after spanish and I love their accents.

and the Eng Subs are off most of the movie (Prime UK), also appear to be somewhat 'auto generated' so many or totally pointless.... ruined a very long movie, 2hr struggle.
Unpopular opinion - this movie is overrated. I love Xavier dolan's work, but this just wasn't the best. A lot was left unanswered and not in a good way. The reconciliation was sudden and no explanation was given on why Matt changed his mind.
I agree! Jesus I just wanted a scene where the two main characters TALKED to each other and communicated or something. I would've wanted the film shortened 20 minutes, and added that 20 mins to the ending of the film. Give me a happy life montage or something, anything... I get this isn't your conventionnal love story film, but you need to please the audience at least a little bit. I feel unsatisfied
