I feel if most of the bosses against the heroes felt more like you're actually fighting a player, they'd be improved immensely. Shovel Knight's boss in Plague of Shadows is a great example of this; he doesn't have a set pattern, and instead runs around like a headless chicken and adapts to your attacks, using the throwing anchor when you're above him, using the phase locket if he's getting hit too much, using the war horn if he's trapped in a pit, learning to reflect your bombs in the latter half, and even healing up when at low health. Heck he even runs out of magic at some point and resorts to his shovel. The hero bosses should have employed similar tactics, not having actual patterns and instead reacting to your own patterns.
@@XVINutkabob Well sure, but if a game's main selling point is playing as the villain and controlling bosses, I want the hero fights to feel like I'm fighting players. GunBucky Bucketman It’s a low budget indie game. Let it stand on its own merits, and don’t compare it to those games on a whole different level. This is a flash game kinda deal - not good per se, but enjoyable.
The game looks pretty rough, but I especially like the contrast of Crow and the heroes. Playing the heroes, you [probably would have found that they've got backstories and stuff. P{laying Crow, you find a one-=track villain who's got more snark undert his belt than most bad guys out there and a high degree of success, as well as (from their POV) one-track heroes. It really shines in that on one hand, you have the heroes beign played in most games, which makes the villain seem flatter, but when you shift control to the bad guy, suddenly the heroes look a lot less 3D.
I expected this game to be ass, but it's actually pretty good the way they've done and referenced everything. The only thing it could do with more of is sound effects and that's about it.
God, what an incredible game, indeed! I just bought it, today, what a great spend! It has gorgeous animation, great gameplay, even a fantastic soundtrack! Also, mad props to that RPG boss fight, which felt SO great, truly a marvelous Indie title, indeed!
Flaxen monster 38 styling Josh Hano, the game's developer, does. He says he's actually considering making comics for the game. And if he does, I'm probably going to buy them.
What do you think the sound of a wrecking ball smashing into concrete or a giant bug's body? The answer for both is the sound of slapping a desk with a mitten according to this game.
This game has a cool concept but the battles are so underwhelming. And the sound design is... egh. The boss music also is super boring. The perspective is wonky sometimes too. Good potential, didn't end up being that great.
Even though the concept and idea for this game are ridiculously cool, it's executed.. kinda poorly. It feels like an unfinished, early prototype. A lot of things seem to be lacking animations or proper sprites, the sound design *sounds* off, and, well, it just feels unfinished. Y'know, with a bit of story tweeking, some better sound design, and re-designed sprites and gameplay, this could be the next big thing... oWo
J Dawg 25o damage is unavoidable in the 16-bit fight. You can't take out the attackers without getting hit. And Vs. The Doom Howitzer (sorry, I just want to say it from Mack's perspective) damage is impossible to dodge in the first phase, unlike in Vs. Princess Becky (she is the one taking damage)
This game makes me feel conflicted. There's an obvious lack of polish to it (Frankly it sorta feels like a really good flash game). But the characters and premise are pretty nice... Certainly a game i'd like to see a sequel to with a bigger budget. At least the comics exist so there's more Crow to go around. :P
the only things which got me interested in this game were the artwork by gashigashi and the idea of being the villain. But the ingame graphics and the soundtrack are so hideous that I stopped caring :x
The good ending honestly feels forced and not natural, in a game like this that should be the bad ending and them succeeding be the good ending. The message of heroes being the unlikeliest people and how friendship can overcome anything just doesn't work with this game like it does with the Persona games. The win the good guys pull feels like it comes out of nowhere and like they pulled it out of their asses because the plot said so more than anything.
I dont know why im commenting 2 years later but... To those who haven't done the reverse boss fights... The reverse boss fights at the end are very difficult, dont underestimate Me personally it took like 7 tries to finish all of them
Just for the record, I have no idea what is going on (story wise) with the Becky Fight. One moment, you are finished on Hyper Mack, the next you are fighting the very boss you used to fight Hyper Mack? As the Princesses? What?
I think that's a different ending. The "good" ending of the game, not sure what the requirements are, but basically if you do a certain thing diferen't in the end you get to play as the princess and save everyone, while in the ending where you control the final weapon you take over the world and the ending shows her escaping and implying there is another ending.
Yep, depending on your choice, you'll fight Hyper Mack and that leads to the bad ending, or you'll fight Becky and that leads to the good ending. I had to cut the story before these fights, because damn sony vegas keeps crashing whenever it attempts to render that part.
Why does the sound seem messed up on this? It seems like any sound effects that are meant to be coming from the heroes are cut out? I clearly remember sound effects during the bug hero's attacks, and sound effects when the Viking attacks as well as boing sounds when you squish him.

Being a parody is not a reason to have terrible execution.
