Just in case you plan on using this in a project, be aware that those differential gears are not meant to run with a big difference in speed. If you run one side with full speed, while the other is standing still, you will get problems with the bearing pins of the small planetary gears. Those typically have no roller bearings, because they are not meant to spin this much at all. Maybe you could try and add some roller bearings to improve the durability :)
Been watching for a LONG time and am not sure if you guys are skilled fabricators - mechanical engineers - or what but you are up there with your savvy of all things dealing with hydrastics, pneumatics, etc. This just puts the oil on the gear. [pun intended].
Wow, you've got some serious skills there. Haven't a clue how I got onto 'Making a differential braking tank transmission" but, I was glued to everything you were doing. Fantastic video, even if making tank braking transmissions is not you're thing 😁👍🏼
Serious machining skills. Doing it the old fashioned way, as oppose to using high tech Cad machines, shows you have been around a machine shop for awhile and learned alot. Also good welds. Kudos 👍
For those of us wondering what the purpose of this was... I believe it's so that you can have a single engine, single transmission, single shaft input, but still have dual variable, controllable output for tank treads. I.E. To turn. Someone correct me below if I'm wrong.
i can write here thousand of words about this nostalgic piece of art, he almost used things you can get from the rear shelves of Walmart, no CNC no CAD no mathematics, and he just used normal non calibrated shop machines, yet beautiful and well crafted job, a gearbox with sheet metal body welded with tig machine ❤❤❤❤, i just watch it non stop., Weldon
Your video is extremely high quality the mixing background music etc... Now coming to the point, you are a very precise engineers no doubt. I never see this kind of high level work, keep it up..
Beautiful job. What is really annoying is all the stupid comments below saying I built this and he built that and someone else did something else. Who cares about what others have done. We all know there are lots of talented people out there but they didn't do this particular one. Again fantastic professional workmanship.
Holy Smokes! You guys are legitimately building a TANK.. I remember suggesting building a TANK a long time ago.. but didn’t think you guys would ACTUALLY DO IT. Ok.. I AM IMPRESSED.. But, the question remains.. What tank? We need to see some kind of representation of the design!!
I'm certain he has a plan, considering his talents. I'm curious, if this is to be a transmission for a tank, how he plans to reverse one side while applying forward power to the other. Without that feature it will be long-turning and difficult to keep tracks on.
Great fabrication skills, but you could have just fabricated the brake setup, mounted the power source so that the output shaft was connected to the original differential input shaft and had the same thing.
once the assembly is bled, in whatever orientation you choose, there's no need to bleed them again unless the system is opened for some reason. These parts could have conceivably been removed intact from the (presumably) motorbike they came on and never opened so bleeding wouldn't have been necessary for their use here.
Having bled motorcycle brakes many times i understand this comment a nightmare at the best of times as the master only moves a tiny bit of fluid at a time try bleeding hydraulic mountain bike brakes there on another league 😂

Right
Pretty common practice when shapers were still common. They actually make vertical mini shapers that bolt onto mills for doing this sort of work too.
I would be fabricating 24/7 if I had all that equipment. The right tool makes all the difference
Just watching this video feels fun, strength and hope
You are an artist with metal. Love it!
Fyi the bleeder screws are supposed to be up not down on calipers for proper bleeding. Besides that it's an amazing job
That’s the one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about but other than that it’s great
Unless it’s a very specific caliper that is made for that position
Ur the torch bearer for guys to learn
but you still can't lock op both tracks without stalling the engine wich i assume is somewhat critical to building a tank and being able to stop it
Mayby electric engine
Thats why you have a clutch between the engine and diff.
Either integraded into a CV or just a regular clutch.
If he is running the bike engine it has an internal clutch
Victor Ivansson im sure he is too otherwise why mock it up to fit it so perfectly
