AMERICA'S FIRST HATCHBACK 1951 VAGABOND FORGOTTEN FIRST START IN YEARS ULTRA RARE CAR

  • Years ago we purchased a Vagabond off the side of the road for 150 bucks. Produced in the 1950s this car is thought to be one of the first Hatchbacks in America. Only lasting a couple of years in production before Kaiser Motors bought Willys and then was bought out by AMC in the 1970s. This car is definitely not your typical 50s business mans sedan. When purchased we only pulled the roof rack off of the Vagabond, before putting it on the side on the shop and letting the elements get to her even more. Today we throw a battery and some fuel and try to figure out why we never continued on this quirky ride.

    Henry John Kaiser and Joseph Frazer (I think that was his name) were pioneers of their time. Both were industrials. Kaiser was an aluminum mogul, building up a few shipyards for WW2. He was responsible for contracting many American roadways during the twenties and thirties too.
    This rare car should be saved! It would be worth the custom fabrication of replacement body repair parts to have this "survivor" sitting proud as a parade queen.

      It be a great parade 👸 instead of candy it will just scatter rusty metal bits the kids can take home with them. We do love the history of the whole car and really are sad it's not in just a little bit better state

    As others have pointed out, it's a '51 Frazer Vagabond (there is a difference) A rare car. Kaiser introduced the hatchback in 1949. The Frazer hatchback was only available on the '51 models.

    Hello
    I saw 54 Nash 2 door hardtop in your video presentation. Do you still have this car? Perhaps you know where this Nash is now?

    • @D2KMotors
      @D2KMotors  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's our turbo nash, still with us we replaced the inline six engine with a turbo 2.4 and took it on a week roadtrip cause every one know what the seats do in those thing if your old enough 😄.

      Of course I know about Nash seats. :-)
      Does your Nash have a Continental kit? Do you have any parts for this car?
      I have 53 Nash Ambassador 2-door hardtop that I am trying to restore and need some parts.
      For example, I need rear quarter panel moldings, they are longer on a car with a Continental kit. My car has a Continental kit (maybe it was installed later) but the moldings are from a car without this kit and they are shorter than they should be.
      I also need rubber door sills, window weather strips and other small items. Perhaps you have some parts or know where to find such parts?
      I would appreciate any help.

      the engine was still very cool to the touch, just was a pocket of angry water at the bottom of the radiator. But the car will more than likely be scrapped none the less, if the cars aren't worth saving to us...then you know they are bad.
