When i solo i leave a note on window of my vehicle with my name / number , description of boat, destination and estimated time of return. I also have chatted with residents near the launch point and told them what i was up to and when to expect me back ! 👍
@@grumpy1311 Ah, that sounds like a good practice! I usually leave a piece of paper that just says “Kayaking” so that my car looks less suspicious, but it would be smart to include some extra information.
Thanks! Sometimes solo is best, especially if you want to keep your own pace and explore without worrying about what others want. But paddling with friends is fun too, tried both
Nice I like it. As for solo - I do a lot of solo paddling too. It does have its place in the sport. I think if you plan and prepare for it, it can be rewarding. James
@@rbm2017 Thanks. Yes I do carry a circular sail, I use it a couple times in my upcoming Maine By Sea Kayak series. I am a little weary of using it because clipping it on makes rolling impossible and it’s prone to flopping sideways and catching waves like a bucket
Excellent 👌 👌 loved the end when you said you are no expert and just the way you do it lol ..far to many are on platform s to say this is how you have to do things
With my PLB, VHF, and phone service, I wouldn’t consider flares absolutely critical. They would be an an added layer of safety., if all else fails. Something to consider for sure!
Always good to leave a paddle plan with someone on land that knows what to do if you don’t return on time.
Yes! Good point, I forgot to include that. I go over everything with my parents before I leave.

Very good summary! Almost all my sails are solo, including frostbite in winter. Planning is critical in addition to the equipment.

Great advice about the drysuit...

James,
Nice to meet you! Yes I do think it has its place, and can be very fun.
No big deal if experienced and geared up.
Inspiring videos. Looks like good adventure. Have you ever considered adding a sail to your ocean-going rig?

Thanks👍🏼 There is not only ONE correct way to safely participate the sport.
@@MadYakker couldn't agree more 👏
Curious for those overnighters, would you carry flares in case your coms fail? (Although an EPIRB is pretty bombproof...)
Good summary!

Nice safety brief bro! You would make a good navy officer!
Haha, thanks
