    Hey Ross. Would love a breakdown of your swim session! I used to be a sprinter, now training every morning at 5 for enjoyment and health. The tip about swimming with fins to practice technique during warm-up is super useful! It's like you say, we can swim and we know better, but our immediate technique isn't necessarily there on the first lap - leading to bad habits. Can't wait to watch the rest of the series!!

    *8:30- fan theory Gollum killed Frodo’s parents in a “boat accident”.
    fan theory, thus far unconfirmed…It's been speculated that Primula and Drogo’s deaths were brought about by Gollum on his quest to find the Ring again. The first fact that adds some credulity to this theory is that in The Fellowship of the Ring, Gollum reportedly reached the Brandywine River in his search for Bilbo before turning back, perhaps because he encountered Primula and Drogo. It's also understood that Gollum’s only clues to Bilbo were the words ‘Shire’ and ‘Baggins.’

    Hobbits canonically don't swim, they don't even go on boats, they have a deep rooted resprect for water. Not all Hobbits, there are also some that life near bigger waters, but the Shire Hobbits don't.

      Yes mate, I'd love to see that. But regardless of how often you upload I think its safe to say the majority of us will be here watching whatever you're doing. Thanks for the entertainment and for staying humble in the crazy ego world that is youtube. You're one of very few to be the same now as you were to begin with and I really do respect that. Good luck with whatever you're doing next. Much love 🙏🏻👍🏻

    I love your content and your energy Ross. Your swim around Britain, with its clearly established metrics (start/stop in the same spot) gained you real kudos in the marathon open water swimming community. Conversely you gained a reputation for obfuscation bordering on disrespect with your 'longest swim' attempts, and frankly I'm concerned you're compounding that again. I worry this approach of 'it's not about a record but the science' provides a convenient way to a nebulous claim. I have no doubt you are better than that.
    You've acknowledged the potential dis to the extreme distance open water GOAT Sarah Thomas, and yet you fail to mention her, or any other distance swimmers in this piece. To truly claim a longest swim, you will have to surpass the efforts of, to name a few, Chloe Mcarlde, Cameron Bellamy, Neil Agius, Martin Strel...and to do so you need to be crystal clear about the rules you're adhering to, just as you were when you swam around Britain.
    Surely I'm going to tarred a hater, or at least a pedant. I promise you I am neither. It would give me great pleasure, and the community genuine cause for celebration, to see you pushing a previously set boundary. But please, no disconnected video clips - set the rules and a tracker and watch how dedicated we are to willing a tiny dot across a screen for hours on end 🙏

    Amazing video Ross! It's so great that you share your love for water. Swimming is such an amazing sport and it's lovely to see you enjoy it, keep going with these great videos. If it doesn't bother you, I'd like to give you a suggestion, a tip for the next videos: Basically, you could try inserting some comic and funny stuff... to give everyone a pinch of humor that, in the world of swimming, can never be missing. Now, I don't think much of it, but the first thing I could think of in your sport might be peeing in the water. Once, my uncle, who is a scuba diver, peed in his wetsuit during a long diving session and that moment was absolutely funny, he even wrote "I’m peeing" on a waterproof notebook during the session. He has always been telling me that there are 2 types of divers and swimmers: those who pee in the water and those who lie. I know it may sound strange as a request but, in my opinion, these are moments of happiness and carefree that always make everyone smile. I hope you like the idea and I hope you have a wonderful day!

      Oh GOOD question… so we have a documentary coming out later this year that actually sheds some light on my odd (hobbit) physiology haha 😂 but short answer is ensuring you eat enough whilst still doing strength prehab… I think a lot of swimmers sometimes neglect strength work

    How accurate is actually HR while swimming from the watch?

    • @RossEdgley
      @RossEdgley  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      GOOD question… I’ve found not very… I will be SWIMMING IN LACTIC and dying and HR says 110… I think the chest straps make it more accurate and need to trial them but at lboro we sometimes do blood lactate which is so much more accurate 🙏

    • @elanzini
      @elanzini 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RossEdgley Fair - I have also found wrist HR quite inaccurate - and the chest strap is a bit annoying to have on for swimming since it either comes off when pushing or it's too tight. Lactate sounds like a good compromise but it also makes it impossible to have continuous monitoring (yet). I have personally computed zones based on some threshold tests on 200 and 400 meters and usually stick to those paces + feelings.
      Excited to see more numbers coming out!!
