  • Since God knows our every need before we ask Him, why should we pray? In this sermon, R.C. Sproul continues his expositional series in Luke’s gospel to consider the privilege we have of coming before our Father in prayer.
    This sermon was preached by R.C. Sproul at Saint Andrew's Chapel in Sanford, Fla. Hear more from his series in the gospel of Luke: • The Gospel of Luke: Se...

    "Next, they'll say, "Do you want to go to heaven?" Have you ever had anybody say, "No, I'd rather go to hell." My friend, understand this, everyone wants to go to heaven. They just don't want God to be there when they get there."

    I get that we cannot out of our own goodness or intelligence seek after God. God is the one who allows us to come to him (Jn 6:44). But scripture also says that God wants all men to seek him and repent (Acts 17:26-31). So the unconverted CAN seek God. But God is the one who allows it.
    From personal experience, I was a Buddhist who was dissatisfied with life. I finally called out to the unknown God to help me understand my purpose in life. 2 months later a campus minister studied the Bible with me. 1 month later I made Jesus my lord and was baptized. I am now a full-time minister of the gospel.
    There are many more Buddhists, Muslims, atheists, out there who are seeking God. God will draw them in, and God will use his disciples to help them believe and be converted into the truth of his Son Jesus Christ.

    Sincere question...if the Holy Spirit is the One who regenerates us for faith and seeking God, then how do we reconcile verse 13, "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” To me, Jesus is saying that the Father will give His Holy Spirit to those who ask. But how could they ask if they were not yet regenerated? And if they were already regenerated and asked, do they not already have the Holy Spirit? Unless we can ask for MORE of His Spirit???

    • @NathalieGrows
      @NathalieGrows ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello! Faith comes before regeneration. So through faith we receive the Holy Spirit, and then the regeneration begins :) And faith starts with undoubtedly knowing that God exists! Otherwise you wouldn’t go to Him to ask Him for anything.
      I hope I have answered your question.
      Peace be with you in the name of the Lord

    How can we seek GOD since GOD made it clear that "none" seek him?

      Hello! It is because of predestination. A lot of people don’t like this doctrine but it is well supported in the Bible. And makes this Bible verse true. God has chosen a remnant for Himself, some that would seek Him. We only seek Him because He has given us the free gift of His mercy and His grace. We have nothing to give. Without Him sovereignly electing us, we would be just like the rest who are dead in their sins, never seeking God. So praise Him! That He has chosen you to experience life, you didn’t do anything to deserve it. Peace be with you amen!

      I encourage you to read the epistle of Romans in it's entirety, so you can understand it better. No one would open a letter from a friend, skip to the third paragraph, read a sentence or two, and then guess what their friend meant from that.
      In the context of Romans, Paul makes the case in ch. 1-3 that everyone (both Jews who had the Old Testament, and everyone else) is a sinner and worthy of judgment. Proceeding chapters (especially ch. 8) show that God predestined "the elect" - who were just a spiritually dead as everyone else - to be spiritually born again, and thus they express faith upon hearing the gospel and are reconciled to God. This is backed up in other books of the Bible such as John 6:35-40, 44 and Ephesians 1-2.
      Hope this helps.

    • @tb2324
      @tb2324 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He didn’t say that. You probably need to listen again if you got that from his sermon. He specifically said unbelievers do not seek as they can’t. Those you may think are seeking after God are seeking for the gifts of God but not seeking God himself. Believers seek as he states.

      Scripture also says to ask in Christ’s name. Meaning in his will. Christ is our advocate. He takes our poorly worded grammar and “wants” and takes them to the father in the perfect will. So God knows what you “Need” before you ask and doesn’t always line up with your “wants” if not part of his will.

      @@tb2324 I appreciate your response. I will continue considering it.
      That said, " Ask, and it shall be given you" and "For every one that asketh receiveth" presents itself as a blatant lie.

    • @NathalieGrows
      @NathalieGrows ปีที่แล้ว

      God never lies. Have you entered into God’s kingdom? Are you born of the Spirit and of water? Being born of the Spirit means you accepting God’s Word as the full and only truth (not picking and choosing what pleases you) born of water means you say goodbye to your old way of living, and letting God make all things new. Repenting of all your sins and being water baptized so that you may die to your flesh and be raised up in new life in God’s kingdom. You need to humble yourself and be teachable as a little child. When you have done this and are sanctified by the Word and the Spirit you will enter in the kingdom of God, and your prayers will be answered because you walk according to the Spirit. Peace be with you Amen!

      What I understood is that God gives us what we need, by the Holy Spirit, as was stated by the example of taking communion, where we sup with him. True we don't always get what we want, because our desires and God's purposes may not be the same but Lord willing, he gives us the strength to accept his will, not insist on our own.

      We can only ask for salvation, forgiveness of sin, holy spirit, wisdom, for God to give us grace and strength in our affliction, heavenly things. Not earthy things, health, wealth etc. These things are not important to God. Hes not our genie.

    Although I enjoy the teachings, there are some interpretations that I do not agree with.
    If God has given us a free will, then it is up to us to open the door. V13 ".....give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him".
    God does not wish that any should perish, but come to repentance.
    Confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour.

      My view is that your teaching of pre-destination tends to support your interpretation of this text.
      However v13, does not support your interpretation.
      As does many other text regarding pre destination.
