    There are a lot of coaches that talk about the importance of the non-dominant arm on the forehand. In this video I explain why it’s never the underlying cause of forehand problems. I also talk about what you need to do if you want your arm to clear, like you see from so many high level players.

    This is true... All pro's do this... as I observe... because if the shoulder and the hip will sync together you have a lots/tons of power, and as my experienced also.

    I've heard so many times that it's extremely important to focus what your nondominant hand is doing. I think it was Rick Perry that coined the phrase "kinetic chain", and so by using your nondominant elbow as the lens to aim at your target, it automatically forces the upper torso to into an extreme coil that's otherwise impossible to learn w/o having these checkpoints. The momentum alone from uncoiling like a cork screw is essential to achieving consistency, topsin, power and timing! And so unless you're already Pro or coach and have the muscle memory in place, for most of us having these checkpoints is extremely need if we're to achieve the same consistency and topsin as the pros. And so it's absolutely brutle and commensurate to taking a shot in the dark if you have no sights like your nondominant elbow to focus on the bulls eye.

      I’m not quite sure what you are trying to say. If you are saying it’s impossible to learn to coil the upper body without thinking about your non dominant arm, that’s correct.

      Haha, we have the same source of information 😅 The "waving to the opponent" stuff does not work for me. Worse, it becomes a distraction. What I have learnt from online tennis is to try something on the court, then to forget about it if it does not help during the first session, instead of stubbornly trying over and over. Yes, the pros "wave to the opponent". However, I don't think they had trained this specifically. Better advice would be to stretch the non-hitting arm sideways to improve the coiling. That helps.

      2Minute Tennis has numerous good tips but I tried Ryan's high elbow, full loop forehand for over 2 1/2 years and it never worked. I went from a 4.0 to a 3.5. Changed to a Sebastian Korda type forehand and won 10 matches in a row. You need to find what works and doesn't work for you.

    1:25 I haven't seen Sinner drop his arm by his side at all, he tucks his arm into his body but I have never seen it be by his pocket at contact unless he gets into a very weird position to hit the ball like on a return.

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When sinner drops his arm it doesn't look quite like when a rec player because his kinetic chain sequencing is amazing.
      What i'm pointing out is that the left arm doesn't influence the contact. It's correlation, rather than causation. When players focus on the left arm, it doesn't generally improve their forehand. I'm sure there will be exceptions, where that coaching cue helped. But for the vast majority it doesn't because it gets people focusing on the wrong thing.

    Since I have become more aware of my non-dominant arm and what it’s doing while hitting my forehand, my forehead has improved immensely. I agree with that two minute (Tennis) guy, but perhaps it doesn’t work for everybody. If Djokovic and many other pros are doing it, so am I.

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As i said in the video, if a coaching cue is working for you that’s great.
      But you can be fairly certain the Djokovic didn’t ever get taught to “use” his non dominant arm. It’s a byproduct of his mechanics.

    I like it…thoughts on the idea I’ve seen on a couple other videos on TH-cam of the kinetic chain being ‘Top to bottom’ in the uncoiling of the forehand? I’d previously coached many years but never heard anyone say this before…In slow motion you can see the off arm starts uncoiling first on everyones forehand it appears, that’s the basis of the theory I believe and it got me scratching my head😂

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I haven't heard watched videos about uncoiling from the top, so it's not fait for me to comment without full context.
      In slow motion the arm looks like it's uncoiling first. But I'd be interested to see what happened if they did an EMG comparing the activation for the muscles in the back of the left shoulder to the right hip, to see which fires first.

      Once my left hand is tournament ready, i spend time developing a good 2 hander. I can hit one, but I don’t feel confident making videos about things I haven’t got to a solid level.
      Thats why I don’t make serve videos. Until I can hit a left handed serve as well as I used to serve with my right, it’s not fair to make videos on it.

    What if left arm does not get out of the way soon enough? Ergo late shot and reduced quality? Or potentially causing to lean back because left hand gets in the way of a full rotation...

    • @TennisHacker
      @TennisHacker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would re-watch the video again, because I explain this in the video.
      Hitting the ball late is caused by poor timing.The shot gets initiated by the back hip.
      Not clearing the arm is because of poor use of the kinetic chain.
      Leaning back, is related to spacing and timing.

      I'm sure if you watch enough videos you'll come across them. I speak to players daily and a lot of players think their forehand problems are caused by their left arm, but when you watch the video, there is always other major stuff going on.
      Very similar to eye dominance. Now thanks to a famous coach that makes YT videos, thousands of players think their technical issues are caused by eye dominance. When you actually assess players vision skills, there are always "actual visual deficits" that correlate with the technical problem.
