It would be a good practice to cover the excess of light coming from around the negative with a piece of black board or a mask. Without that measure light will "bleed" in your shot. Great demonstration.

This video has several elements not recurrent in many others. There is also a drawback: with the glass over the negative you will not be able to adjust the negative into propper position.
So much wrong with this process. As mentioned by others no masking of excess light to combat flair. No concern for Newton rings. You'd be better off having some type of film holder to avoid contact between the glass / light table. Direct contact with the light table also raises the risk of scratches which then leads to nice sharp pictures of scratches on your image because the negative is on the same focus plain as the scratch. A copy stand is really not necessary unless you're going to be doing this every day and have to have a permanent setup. Focus peaking greatly simplifies aligning the negative in the lens with nothing more than a tripod.

It is recommended to use an anti Newtown Glass, or you can get newton rings on your scans
Which type of glass going over the negative? You shouldnt be worry about Newton rings?
Honestly just tape it on :) Glass can only worse the image.
I was recently adviced to use 2mm "Museum-glas" if I needed to flatten something

copying a piece of black and white film with a DSLR is super easy.. copying color negative film is a ROYAL pain in the a**
It does require some advanced techniques for color balance and correction, for sure.
