Dual Citizen: 1960 Zundapp Citation, aka, Horex Imperator, 500cc

This beautifully restored Zündapp Citation is for sale. It's a great running bike. Why does it have two names? The motorcycle was manufactured by Horex Werke. Horex was best known for its post-war single-cylinder Regina model. The motorcycle was re-branded as a Zundapp for its US importer. They named it the Zundapp Citation after the triple-crown winning horse. It's a 500 cc motorcycle with a top speed of 100+ mph. The Citation was built for only 2 years, from 1958 to 1960. Rare bike.

Had a 58 Citation in 64-65 and loved it! Had aluminum fenders front and back, painted scallop on the tank, and 11” apehangers! The rubber “damper” on the back wheel broke and my machinist dad made an aluminum piece with rubber inserts! Looked and worked great. Sold it when the clutch plates warped so bad it tended to creep at stoplights and no replacements were available back then. Great memories; wish i still had it!

I’m not sure which year exactly but my grandpa used to have this model motorcycle back in the day. Glad to see & hear what it would’ve sounded like when he was riding it those many years ago
