How To Set Up YouTube Parental Controls

- TH-cam Parental control is a must if you are letting your kids use the TH-cam app or TH-cam website.
There are three simple steps you can mix and match to make TH-cam more kids friendly and hide mature content.
Step 1: Use TH-cam kids instead of the TH-cam app. If you can keep your kids on the TH-cam Kids app which is designed for kids 12 and under, it is less likely to contain mature content of any kind.
Step 2: Turn on restricted mode on the TH-cam app on iPhone, iPad, and Android and turn on restricted mode on TH-cam.com
Make sure to lock this option, so it can't be easily changed back.
Step 3: Turn on SafeSearch for your Google account. Google owns TH-cam, so this option transfers over to TH-cam and Google searches.

To be honest TH-cam could do much more but it doesn't. It's not always the adult content I want restricted but the damn kids content too. The utter bilge that my son ends up watching I should be able to block channels and certain search terms and I should also be able to restrict non-English terms. TH-cam is crap for kids, they know it and they don't care.

Hey Fakey! I use Spymaster Pro to set restrictions on certain keywords on TH-cam, and it works out great for my ten-year-old. You can try it too.
agree i want to stop my son watching AdventureFun and puppet steve as they show videos of cutting open Goo jit zu toys and i dont want my son doing this. what i want it to block both theses channels so my son cant access them. any idea on how i do this?

@@xDee1329x You can block the channel by:
Clicking on the channel name
Clicking the About tab
Clicking the flag
Then clicking Block User.
I downloaded Video Blocker 6.3 (FREE) from the Chrome store. With that I can block both search terms and channels. To block a channel I just right click and it gives me the option. It also stops that choice screen at the end of a video which means my child can think about something else other than what else they can watch.

At 2:26, you mention the "Lock Restricted Mode on this browser." Where can I do this on the iPhone TH-cam app?
What about on tv’s? If we set the restrictions on our phones will that carry over to the tv TH-cam app. also?

Thanks for the tutorial. But this is only to set it on for your own account (willingly). It does not help at all if that account is my teen's and they have absolutely full right to turn it off by themselves. They can easily just search this video and find out how to turn all three of them off. As a parent, you have no way to stop them from disabling features (especially after 13 in US, which is utterly crazy to give a teen just powerful tools). This is one of the flaw I find out in google that no one bother to address. I know you might argue that if they are 13, they are young adults, they should manage some of their freedom, but they are still old kids and in a lot of way immature to handle all these settings that they can just simply turn off and not care about (including turning off location tracking so parent will not know where they are). It's very disappointing how little the industry do to protect teens nowadays (Google, Microsoft, etc. they are all the same. Looks good on paper, totally impractical when you are a parent trying to setup something that can block their access). Another practical example is my kids watch a lot of those minecraft videos that is getting block by restricted-mode for no reason (there no profanity, no offensive things, etc.). And when so many video got blocked by restricted-mode, we parent have no choice but to disable restricted mode for them since it is so broken and it does not work at all (blocking too many videos)

I have a doubt that if my son had started a you tube channel but due to the age restriction it was blocked. But the you tube channel had run with a good amount of members. Is there any idea to reactivate the channel again
So once you've enabled restricted mode, how do I secure it so my kids can't simply navigate to Settings | General | Restrict Mode and disable it?

But the kids can just go back and turn off restricted mode, watch the video they want, then turn restricted mode back on afterwards. There is no lock on the app.
What they need is a passcode that would solve it.

How can I avoid he watches specific videos that have death, killing, monsters and yet they claim to be for kids!
All three of these are great ways to protect children on TH-cam. I am very impressed in the steps TH-cam is taking to filter video content. Using all of these safety features will help make sure the video content displayed on the site will be appropriate for your children.
If you find this impressive I weep. If you see the utter shite that my son accesses in the name of "kid's entertainment" you would realise TH-cam could do a damn sight more. My neighbour's kid likes to watch "where's the poopy" basically watching a turd disappear into a toilet and kids trying to find it. I don't think that's acceptable but it's easy to find even with restrictions on. TH-cam have basically done the bare minimum to appear to care. They don't.

My kids use my ps5 or the Amazon firecube and it took my 3 year old son less than 1 day to figure out he could just switch the account back over to mine to watch whatever he wanted.
Is there a way to prevent that?

Sadly no- only the TH-cam kids app doesn't have any comment sections. You have no other choice but to tell him/them don't comment on any videos or the videos he watch

Unfortunately this restricted mode doesn't block minecraft commentaries
It's changing soon and I see 0 options to lock the kids profiles to keep them in their own and out of the adult profile
Even cartoon characters that they uploaded like goku etc have some vulgar words and sexy scene in it
Not all cartoons are for kids and you need to be careful with the Elsagate stuff that gets uploaded, it's better than it was but if you don't know what something is you should really not let you kid watch it.

You do know there are videos that teach kids to make guns that are ending up on the platform and that lots of the Elsagate stuff is still on the platform too?
