Hi Mark. I have a question for you to answer for me please. I have just made a small pond in my garden that I'm going to put 3 fancy goldfish in. I have already got the fish, but have them in a tank indoors with a filter running and they are doing really well. My question is : What temp does the pond water need to be at before its safe to transfer them to the pond ? Or around what time of year , as I don't want to shock them with the temps, as they need to acclimate to colder waters. Also , as long as the pond does not totally freeze over in the winter, do you think the fancy goldfish ( Ryakin , Fantail and a Ranchu ) will be able to survive throughout the winter ? I read lots of info of conflicting opinions on this for fancy goldfish and would value your opinion, thanks , les
some people have Fancy goldfish in ponds outdoors, here in the midlands UK its no good as the water temp goes to low. When to move the fish when the pond is similar to the aquarium temp would you leave the door open? If so move them that day but still use a plastic bag to reduce the shock
Ok thanks Mark. I live in Dorset about 10 miles from Bournemouth. Generally our climate is reasonably mild really in comparison to a lot of the country. Would you really think that they would need to be over wintered indoors ?
I do have people that are able to keep them outside. Wooden barrels with bubble rap around them. If you think about the size of the fins they can cool the fish down quickly. But a little patio pond is normally the best so you can bring them inside if its a really bad year!
Hi Mark, just started my research in ponds. Moved house and the garden had natural a overgrown large pond in marsh land. Over the four months here the water level has basically emptied which is apparently unusual. I've taken the opportunity to have it dredged and shaped so i have a blank canvas. Pond is roughly 8m x 20m to an island that has two narrow channels running into another section 8m x 5m. It used to be around a 1m deep but it is a puddle at the moment. I was looking at pump/aerator for this ideally a few small fish to go in and plant it up. I have power near the 20meter section but nothing for the smaller bit. It looks like it is going to need something specialist to handle the size, do these pumps/aerators just come with 3 pin UK power or does it need wiring? Anything you could recommend looking at as it is 100'000's litres of water when it recovers? Thanks Lew
Im looking into solar and deep cycle batteries as an option to to airate a lake 24/7 of about 1 acre. would you recommend an air line as shown in the video or a pump with a venturi. The budget is £600 and the lake is part of a fishery. Thanks in advance.
bob scratchit yes adding an air compressor next to the pond is the best way to move water around. Cheapest way running costs. Paddle wheels are also very popular on fishery’s. The budget is tight but I am sure you can find something.
Hello again. Your channel is a valuable resource & source ❤. I've managed to install my off grid pond aeration system. 300 watt monocrystaline solar panel ➡️ VICTRON 100/20 MPPT➡️ 2X 110Ah deep cycle batteries ➡️VICTRON INVERTER ➡️ hiblow xp60 diaphragm air pump➡️ 1200mm airlift chamber. Works a treat moving over 20000 litres per hour of a 39watt air pump. Check out AIRLIFT.EU for info on how to construct an airlift chamber. Thank you for your past reply & all your future videos
Hi I have a carp Pond.I have several hundread carp. Some are huge 5+ kg but since they reproduced there are several small and medium size fish. The pond is fairly big with deepest part being 3.5 M.I am now worried as there have been fish dying previously in autumn and no I am looking for a aerator. The way we used it was only in winter and only during the day. What do you suggest we do.Do we need one aerator in around the 3 meter mark that will run every day or something else?
Hi Mark, great video shame the wind was a bit strong. I have recently acquired a good sized piece of land with a large body of water, the problem is there is a lot of algae in there and it smells awful at the moment so it seems pretty stagnant. It was a quarry about 200 years ago and has since filled with water for roughly 150 years. Can you give me any advice on how best to go about bringing some life back into it? I am looking at oxygenating plants at the moment but due to its depth which is more than 50m in some places I don't think they will take will they?
@@ThePondAdvisor Thanks very much for getting back to me, I am going to be starting the project in the spring. I will let you know how I get on. Many thanks again Chris
Hi Mark, I have 40m 1.5m deep spring fed pond that I’m getting dredged as it’s full of black sludge. When its done I would like to add aeration. Can you help me spec a pump(s) and discs? I’m going to introduce grass carp also as I have a lot of starwort weed. Thanks

Yes the pumps come with plugs

Just seen this comment, raise the defuser up out of the 3m area. Have the out let’s around one meter deep is better

A lot of the oxygen plants will raft. This will in turn heat the water a little in the season.

You would be looking at a compressor producing 300lts per minute
Mark you had a video about you laying down willow moss on a waterfall my willow moss has arrived but I can’t find your video, help!! Thanks
I use willow moss in a lot of my showcase videos. Simply stick in into place with waterfall foam
That top water blow up above his shoulder right in the beginning lol
Wasn't it something landing on the water? Looks like a white bird
using atmospheric air, no concerns about re-suspending sediments into the water column?
No the sediment moves away just like wave action.
@@ThePondAdvisor copy that, thanks for your reply :)!
Hi Mark..can you suggest an. Compressor or air pump. For 1 actions 10 ft deep..thanks
There are lots of compressors, we use a few, nothing stands out.
Hi Mark which air pumps/septic pumps. For 3/4 acre pond 10 ft deep??
Big one 300lts per minute, multiple set ups
Hi mark I have a 40,000 litter pond what airator would you recommend
Farm pond? Garden pond?
Fish died for 1000s years in night due to oxygen.... those plant gonna get oxygen from air
Not sure what you mean they are under the water no contact with the air
