    I used to rock a GH3 for TH-cam stuff in 2016, I was scrolling thru old videos the other day and my footage looked better than it does now lol! I just bought a used GH3 for 300 with the 14-45, gonna try to relive the glory days.

      Thats could be bc the autofocus, while incredibly usefull for photography, will always be outdated bc what it does is unnatural for the eye most of the time. I think the gh3 holds great potencial if you plan your shoots without the need of changing focus mid-secuence!

    GH3 = the best mirrorless interchangeable lens camera available for under $300. Simple as that. Also: built -in WiFi works with Panasonic Image App, built-in headphone jack, microphone input jack, hard-wire remote control, old style PC studio flash socket, PictBridge capable, shoots stills at 20 FPS using electronic shutter, built-in digital tele-converter, articulated LCD screen, battery grip with extra battery option, great battery life, ( WAY better than even some modern Sony's ), uses STANDARD SD cards, none of that "XQD" crap, clean HDMI output, UNLIMITED video record time. ( As long as you have space on the card and power you can keep recording without sensor overheating. ) Records 1080 60p in AVCHD, MP4, and MOV formats @ 28 Mbps, MOV all-intra @1080 30p @ 72 Mbps, slow-motion and accelerated motion video recording is built into the camera, timelapse photography is built in, shoots STILLS in multiple aspect ratios: 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, and 1:1 has pixel mapping ( which resets dead pixels ) built in, body dimensions are virtually identical to Nikon D7000, and Canon T5i bodies yet ergonomics are much better. Because there is no mechanical linkage between the lens and the body it's possible to adapt ANY lens. For $300 Vello makes an adapter for Canon EF and EF-S lenses that give the Canon lenses full function auto-focus and auto-exposure on micro four third bodies. THAT is something to think about. You can use Canon L-Series lenses on your GH-3, complete with auto focus and auto exposure. Try finding a fully functional adapter for Nikon or Sony. Vello also makes a full-function adapter for older model four thirds lenses.

    I LOVE my GH3! As a stills camera, it actually outperforms the GH5 in low light. And kills the GH5 for price. The features set is really out of this world. I love being able to look through the viewfinder, and still select focus with the touchscreen. The buttons, so many buttons. Dual wheels for shutter and aperture at the same time. And so many quick access buttons! Did I mention, buttons?! And if you add the battery grip, even more buttons! But the shining star is actually Panasonic's Image App. SUPER WELL EXECUTED! Tethered shooting, remote control, power zoom (with the correct lens), and access to most settings one would use during a shoot. With its weather sealing and magnesium case, it is durable.

      Thanks. I'm a budget hobbyist amateur dabbler that went thru my learning curve with a now worn out aging Canon T3 & before I go all in on the Canon ecosystem I've been planning awhile now on upgrading toward the Panasonic GH5, but due to not being a full timer (pro) and on a tight-fisted budget, as a stepping stone toward the GH5, I've had my eye specifically on GH3 for the very point you made about the WIFI App. I'd love to make the big jump straight up to GH5, for not the least of which reasons that it has a FULL-sized HDMI output port, (and all the rest, I'm sure ur aware of).... but I'm convinced that this option is more practical overall, especially financially. thanks again.

    • @biggsdarklighter4586
      @biggsdarklighter4586 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trendscoutplus4584 Going in I thought the same thing. "Hey, its a stepping stone to the GH5." I wouldn't trade my GH3 for a GH5 now. I'M sure this depends on your focus though. I don't do video. My focus being 100% photography stills. And the GH3 is a VERY capable video rig still. But my videos are all of my dog being silly, so I grab what is on hand, my iphone. There is one difference from a DSLR like your Canon. You are not looking through glass, but a digital version. Advantage is, you can set the camera up to show what the picture will look like. But the payday here is size. I can carry two bodies, a lens trinity, and some fun stuff like Holga lenses in the same size bag that my Nikon and three lenses fit in, and that was cramped. Quantifying it is , hard. My old Nikon still felt like it "could be" a film camera. The GH3 is pure digital, you have no doubt there. If you can, hang onto the Canon and grab the GH3. If you have to sell the Canon to get the GH3, it will feel different, but you won't be disappointed unless you want that nostalgia of film.

      @@trendscoutplus4584 BTW another bonus of the Panasonic system, there isn't much "low end" glass quality. The inexpensive glass is still, IMHO, outrageously good. For a budget conscious kit, hard to beat. I have like 6 different bodies now, but haven't traded or sold a single lens.

    • @biggsdarklighter4586
      @biggsdarklighter4586 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@trendscoutplus4584 Not sure where the battery grip question went, but yes it is available. Search for DMW-BGGH3. I think there are 2-3 generic clones avalible, but watch out as one has no function buttons if I remember correctly. Panasonic genuine is what I went with. I found mine still in the box for $75. I felt it was a lot to spend, but knew I wanted the genuine one. I would happily pay the higher prices for it now though after using it. It takes the camera up several notches in how it feels, long battery life, and it LOOKS the part too.

    I'm thinking of getting a GH3 as a second camera for my GH5 when I record live streams at 25fps.
    I wanted to double-check a few things. Does it have focus peaking and what colour profiles are there on it?

    • @steve_heise
      @steve_heise  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the GH3 doesn’t have focus peaking. The only manual focus tool is it magnifies the image to help set focus. Likewise, the only color profiles are the usual “Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, Scenery and Portrait”. All are customizable of course.
