Great idea! I just tried this on my home, which was a rental property before we got it, and found two baby birds and an insane amount of lint! We definitely saved ourselves from a fire with that
I'm not sure how dumb a question this is. Is there a possibility of the bird entering the dryer through the dryer vent? I had a bird in my dryer vent, but it almost seemed like it was in the dryer itself. I made some loud noises and turned on the 'air fluff' feature on my dryer, which ran for 20 mins. Now I'm not sure if the bird flew away or it got trapped inside the dryer. Worried
I have birds with a nest in an old exhaust area that is no longer used but was stupidly still open to the outside by prev owner. Do I cannot push them out since there is no inside opening. But I can hear them fluttering around. So HOW DO I FLUSH THEM OUT FROM THE OUTSIDE OPENING?
Just FYI, iirc code says any kind of cover is not allowed on dryer vents and the vent must have 12 square inches of opening. So a typical 3x5 vent would be in spec.
The $6 cover shown in this video is considered a fire hazard if installed on the dryer vent in some states so please check the fire code that applies to you.
There are eggs in mine and I stopped because I felt bad. And the mommy bird is waiting in the tree to go back inside. After two days it was filled with nest again. I guess they like hot air.
Had someone come out and remove the nest and I did a load of clothes not realizing the smell was going to come through the dryer . How do you get that awful smell out of your dryer?
The nest I found in my old home oh boy! I didn't notice until it smelled like birds in my dryer. My laundry room was located on 2nd floor. I used a shop vac and a leaf blower. The exit was located on deck. Was fortunate that entire nest with 3 alive birds barely have feathers all intact. Momma never returned to retrieve nest full of babies.
Unfortunately, no, but I did just put out a video about DIY bird spikes that have saved my porch signs from being pooped on, which has been working wonders. th-cam.com/video/t1xpLAl75Zw/w-d-xo.html Good luck with those pesky birds!
Wow we had the same issue when we went away for a month.. when we were back, I started hearing some strange noise.. later when I observed from outside, it was sparrows building nest. It was quite big nest.. Our dryer is in the 3rd level. Cleaning was a bit hard.. We hired handyman to put a cover outside…
I have been having a similar problem. However my washer and dryer are one the top floor. I have no way of reaching it from the outside of my home to attach any cage. Any tips on what I should do?
I would see if you could put a small screen in the end of the hose near the wall from your laundry room. It might have to be a bit hacky but if it works then that’s something. Ideally either you or someone else would be able to access that outer area with ladders/scaffolding but if course you work with what you’ve got.
Hire a professional to clean the vent line. There really is no other resolution. Have the pro clean the dryer also. You'll be amazed at how much lint build up in inside a dryer. Screens, critter cages, etc., all trap lint and cause blockages, which is probably your problem now. Screens and such are often a code violation and fire hazard.
I had field mice in our dryer vent. I put a square of wire mesh over the outside cover. Once a month or so I have to clean lint off the mesh. Problem solved for about 10 cents.
I actually bought wire mesh ($2) and was going to do that but the idea of cleaning it out once a month drove me away from this idea. I'm way too lazy :)
Just posted it. I bought mine at Lowe's but the one on Amazon doesn't come with the screen. Technically you should't need it because of how the backdraft flap is built but that's up to you.
Two options if you don't have a leaf blower: 1) Try using a shop vac or, if you have to, a regular vacuum. 2) Gather up the flexible duct hose and toss it. Putting a new hose in costs about $8. With the old hose gone completely, it should be much easier to push anything out that is in or near the exhaust portion. Plus, sometimes it's easier just to start fresh. geni.us/WVdZB
@@patrickv.3105 I got ya 💪. A few years ago I got one of those rigid vacuums / leaf blower. It not only sucks it blows. Overall a good product 😂😂😂. Have a great day everybody. 😁
ya...i want to see that when the babies come flyin out..get yur 7 yr old who is gonna be the next baseball alltimer to stand there and see how many he can scora a homerun with...family fun time...
Did anybody else think a bird was going to fly out. Not going to lie. Kinda skipped a head a bit and saw him turn on an air blower. I know i didn't skip that much. How he get them birds out I'm thinking. Then he turns it on. Omg I so thought I was going to see birds fly out lmao
Leaf blower .....genius!
Agreed

Great video. Changing out the vent hood was the better option. The covers get clogged pretty quickly.
Great idea. I'm surprised at how many people don't pay attention to this issue.
Thank you for a clear and articulate presentation.
The leaf blower thing with the nest just blasting out like a shotgun, for some reason, made me laugh out loud.
but is an excellent idea!
My local woodpecker is about to get a leaf blower enema.
BUCKLE UP, LITTLE GUY!
Wheeeeee!
Thanks so much. Our dryer vent is up high and I have no ladder!
Could you do a video on how to repair stuco that has broken off or cracked? Love how you explain everything.
Great solution, thanks for sharing .
how do you clean lint out later on with this new vent?
Great idea, you should have replaced the flexible pipe with galvanized pipe.....I never use corrugated or plastic. Thanks....Jim
🤣 didnt think of using my EGO!!! good video thanks
Don’t wait before it’s too late! Currently have a bird mite infestation in our home now.
Are you serious? Did you get sick?
@@James.1_2-3 it was serious but didn’t get sick! They went away after the birds left and I used a spray from Amazon
Many thanks! This helped me solve my bird problem! 🤗
Great to hear!

You’ve saved us. Appreciate it!!
I read there is a link to the vent cover used. Where can we find that link?
Thank you! Now there's no way I have the nerve to get these birds out of there!

How to get the bad smell out when one dies inside the vent
Same problem with stove vent. What to do?
Imagine the birds coming back to see their house being blown out of the vent stick by stick😂they definitely saw it happen in slow motion too💀💀
Won't lint still build up in there.

So you killed the baby birds?
love this, just bought my own house and doing all kinds of things now. got any vidoes of birds in those 3-inch holes/vents around the house?

how did you flush out before closing it up?
drywall screws?
Handy they tend to go through my vent over my stove

If the cover was never removed before, how did the birds get in? They can get through that?
They got through the little flaps of the previous exhaust vent. About 1” tall.
@@LRN2DIY they will flip the lid and walk in. seen it many times
cool shirt
How did the birds get in a closed vent?
Small birds can fit through the small plastic flaps on the exhaust sometimes.
Just build a new vent hole. The old one belongs to the birds now.
1:59 YEET!
Can you post link for free leaf blower?

Wouldn’t want any critters entering the house when you disconnect from inside. If any are there, simply suck them out with shop vac from outside.
Coming from another white guy... that is the WHITEST shirt I've ever seen lol.
🤣🤣
Just start drying, birds and nice will dry fast.
too bad there was no birds.. that leaf blower would have removed them in a hurry.. and that would have made an even better slow mo.
FIrst off, don't use that kind of shitty dryer vent.
