I watched the whole season in one day. Didn't even know about it until i saw a thread on Twitter talking about the finale. Can't believe there wasn't a lot more publicity for the show. It's a gem. Can't wait for season 2.
Opinions are so interesting, I respect them immensely for I don't ever consider mine superior ever... being I love some popular hated films, and I hate some popular successful praised films. That being said as someone who loves this era, and pirates, and Taika Waititi, I just wouldn't be able to watch 2 minutes of this, could barely get through the trailer, just not my cup of tea. Glad you like it though.
Isn't this the first time Rhys Darby is a lead in a show. If so. Good on him. He has been some of the funniest supporting characters in a lot of stuff over the year. Much deserved.
@@HowdyDuty4 Technically. You could say that doesn't count. As its a sketch show. And by the looks of the clip's i've seen. Mybe thats for the best. lol
I think this concept might be based on Stede Bonnet, a wealthy landowner in Barbados who turned to pirating in 1717 because of an unhappy marriage. He turned out to be surprisingly successful at it.
He wasn't successful, knew nothing about sailing, his crew thought him an idiot and Blackbeard took over his ship and stole it. He eventually died on a fools errand trying to find him for revenge.

Okay, so it is pretty gay? Someone was joking about how Tom Scott saying "gay pirate assassin's" was a prediction for this, but I was surprised by how not straight the trailer seemed lol. I've also seen Internet Historian's short documentary about this guy, so I'm pretty excited to watch this now.
Why do I have a feeling after this trailer, that they came on set of Pirates of the Caribbean when the crew was on a break and they just started filming without their knowledge
what if the internet historian hasn't uploaded anything in 364 days, because he's in some sort of legal dispute with HBO max, and therefore has to make sure, that he does not create any revenue with his main channel or something?

Can I just say that as a Civil War reenactor, I WISH I could grow a beard like Waititi's at 0:56! I can get the goatee in just fine, but I've tried to get a full beard several times but the cheeks just grow crab-grass 🤣 I mean, ALL reenactors ought to look like Grizzly Adams, right? RIGHT?! Its the humor that i love!
What’s are some dad jokes since I am a dad???
It seems to be a ripoff of Pirates of the Caribbean, without J Depp!

how does Taika find the time to do all the things he's doing lol. Seems like he's on so many projects at the same time

Because you don't hear about a project until it's done.
I was asking myself the same question
Feels like there's 3 of him... although this does looked like it was filmed in a week.
