    It’s nice they engineered a case trimmer based on a pencil sharpener

    Now that was a review...nice job ...looking to get my 1st case trimmer been looking hard...every price from 90 bucks to 600... I'm glad to see someone comparing to an expensive one thank u for an honest review... been leaning towards this trimer..as you know reloading equipment can get very expensive so if I can save a buck on something that does a job just like a 600 dollar machine for a 150 bucks well guess which one do you think I want... lol..

      Glad it could help you. As long as you don’t mind doing the deburr and chamfer separately then it’s a great system and will definitely save you a ton of money.

    My case trim express is roughly 3 years old now and I do all my trimming on it, I have replaced the cutter once now and it does have some issues. I get a ratcheting sound sometimes and you have too watch the micrometer wheel because it has the tendency too walk on you, screwing up your length. But it’s solid for the money.

    Excellent review John. I also have this trimmer, and I would agree with what John was calling out, very positive.

    I’ve now trimmed approximately 700 5.56 brass and I’m experiencing a problem. I believe that the cutter has already gotten dull. I have to insert each piece of brass very, very slowly or the cutter will grab and after a terrible noise completely stop. This also throws the adjustment wheel way out of adjustment. I was hoping for much better and at first I was really impressed, but now I’m having buyer’s remorse.

    You answered my questions on this. Why would one buy a manual lathe style trimmer and risk the guide tearing up the inside of the neck and take all that more time to resize when this one can be punched for abt $10 more. And it's trimming neck size not full length. Sold!

  • @tires2burn
    @tires2burn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice job. I would have liked to see you dial it in from start to finish measuring the adjustments just to see if it really dials in as easy as you describe.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I still think for the money. It’s a great unit as long as you understand, it won’t chamfer or deburr at the same time. Also, I will be showing off a really cool new tool soon that you can turn this unit into for trimming bullets if you want to.

      @FClassJohn  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I totally understand but again it’s a price point thing. I think for the price compared to anything else you can get, you would be extremely happy. But obviously there are tools out there that will do all three at the same time but they do cost more of course.

    • @hoobeydoobey1267
      @hoobeydoobey1267 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Likewise. The fact it does multiple calibers instead of just one, is a big plus. In addition to the Giraud Tri-Way I have mounted on an fast turning AC surplus motor, I made a drill adaptor for the RCBS Trim Pro. Changed the cutting head to the RCBS 3-way cutting and can trim cases pretty fast, but with unit and drill, it's a much larger bench top real estate need to operate. I may still get this as its one sale at MidSouth for $124. I have a DC motor with gear reduction and speed control mounted under the bench with a chuck and place the debur tool in it. so 2 of the operations would go fairly fast with this unit. After completion of the 2 stages of trimming and deburring or chamfering, I'd have to turn the tool around and complete the thrid stage of deburring or chamfering. The TrimPro with 3-way handles brass once. The Giraud TriWay handles brass once. Downside of the GTW is the need for a new one for every caliber, at least for those one does large volume reloading with.

      Norma 6mm BR factory loaded ammunition for 300m target shooting is superbly accurate & used at world championship level. The cases are not chamfered by Norma before they load them (nor do they need de-burring if a correctly set high RPM cutter is used).

    John do you trim new unfired cases ?

  • @davekri1662
    @davekri1662 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    with your giraud it does length, inside/outside bevel simultaneously, correct? i work with a guy (jim) who shoots competitively. he has a gracey trimmer. it does the same work as the giraud. there isn't any edge on the outside of the case mouth following the trim.
    jim says that detail is important because any remaining edge "squeezes" the bullet upon chambering and then there is concern for over pressure issues.
    i have a lyman brass prep station. after i trim my brass on the manual rcbs case trimmer and chamfer and debur, i still have an edge on the exterior of the case mouth. i can feel it when i run my fingernail up the side of the case mouth.
    i've watched countless videos of those who duplicate my process but none ever mention anything about the remaining edge. i changed out the exterior case trimmer (debur) with a different brand but same result.
    what are your thoughts please.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve never heard of the ‘edge’ causing pressure but it certainly doesn’t mean it doesn’t. For me I like the Giraud because it does leave a flat spot on the top of the neck and that does two things. One is it ensure there seating a bullet doesn’t cause copper to be scraped off. Second is having a flat top of the neck ensure there’s no knife edge to work harden weird at the top so it preserves the brass better. At least that’s how I see it. There could certainly be other factors at play that I’m not aware of as well.

    Did you have a Look at the Henderson Trimmer? I might get one. Thanks!

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's a cool design and I get why people love it, but for me the Giraud is still the best high-end trimmer. It's more portable in terms of keeping under your bench, catches all your trimmings and costs nearly $300 less than the Henderson. The Giraud also doesn't require you to insert a case into a handle so there's less effort there too. Check out my Giraud videos and you'll see why I love them.

      For the price absolutely. As I said in the video, I use something else that's about 7x the money but I 100% believe this is the best thing you can buy for under $200-300 right now and it's only $125 on average.

    • @FClassJohn
      @FClassJohn  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. I doesn’t do either. That why I say for the money it’s tough to beat for the money but you still have to deburr and chamfer. To get anything they does all three you’ll need a Giraud.
