I can't get over how the 1993 version EXPLODES into a shamelessly funky offbeat jam after the first riff. Just audacious.

Wanted to add another comment simply because this is such a high effort TH-cam video.

The 93 Hudson PC Engine version sounds like a song one would hear when they're walking down Broadway or the Vegas Strip. It's so upbeat for a "Tower of the Shadow of Death."

I had no idea there were so many versions of this song. Even though I've been alive for all Ys games' existence, I didn't really get into them til about a year ago. I started with Ys Origin and this song seriously got me. (On a side note, I made a metal version of another song made by the original composer of this song for another game. You can't imagine how surprised I was when I find out that Yuzo Koshiro also wrote this song!)

There are actually two versions of the music from the Sega Master System, one with the FM chip and one without. The one in this video is the one without

Just imagine if the X68K version worked with the more advanced sounds like what Castlevania did. That would be awesome. (That goes for Ys III as well)

You can notice that from 2009 to now it has been the longest time with no Ys I & II "remake" or port to other console, it would be nice to see a remake of these Ys for ps4 or vita in 3D

Well, thats kinda what origin is, you fight alot of ys 1 and 2 bosses.
A full remake in the 3/6/O engine would be nice tho, could add in the voice acting from earlier versions or rerecord it too.
I'm still near the beginning of celceta, but I assume the party member type style wouldn't work as well for ys 1 and 2 since its just Adol for that adventure.

    • @Matt-cn2nn
      @Matt-cn2nn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@alphax-shroom6781 Origin is...not a remake of Ys 1 and 2 in the slightest, it's an entirely different beast in every way.
That said, I don't think Ys 1 and 2 need anymore remakes, the Complete versions are great as is and any attempt to modernise them would fall flat.

The best versions of this song, for me, retain those 80s funk and electronic vibes... that's why I like the PC-Engine versions the most. The PSP version is, on many of the songs, too ...'rock orchestra' for me, like it's not bad but it doesn't bring out the best qualities of this or other songs from this soundtrack for me.

In the context to Darm Tower in Ys 4: Dawn of Ys it makes a lot more sense than it sounds. I won't spoil anything if you haven't played it, but let's just say in that game Darm Tower is quite literally a shadow of it's former self from Ys 1.

I was gonna comment that the TG16 version was the best bar none because of its shameless guitar solo, then I listened into the PSP version and I was like, OH YEAH! I'm a child of of the 80s and 90s, sue me.

That's because the PC Engine version was the first to use Red Book (CD) audio, which meant Yuzo Koshiro and his remixer Ryo Yonemitsu weren't limited to the console's sound chip and could record whichever synths and samples they wanted as an actual audio recording instead of sequenced MIDI. The PC Engine version is the truest to the composer's original intentions.

Famicom and master system is killing my ears how badly they sound.
The best one hands down is the PC engine
The X6800 is decent for sure but PC engine slaps
Only the 2009 PC/PSP versions slapp well enugh to be on par with PC engine but still PC engine out slaps them all.
