I have just looked at a couple of your teaching videos and I would like to say what an excellent format you have presented with the tabs and chords showing as you play. Hope you do more vids.
Good on you Nick & Jane. This is a good contribution. I looked at 6 or so youtube tutorials on this song. Especially trying to get the chorus sounding right ( as per the original record of course ) and yours was the best. I am now playing along on my acoustic, ready to rock when our group meets next week. Thank you. And yes I have subscribed. Jac - near Melbourne Australia.
bellarineman Thanks Jac. Good luck with your group rehearsal. Let us know how you get on. PS - We love Melbourne and visit the rellies whenever we can get over there. All the best. Jane.
Hi Michael thanks for the question. I try to keep the lessons short so don't cover the strumming pattern. The important message with strumming for this song is to ensure all the accented beats are crisp down strokes which you deaden once sounded - see my "Palm Muting" lesson th-cam.com/video/D6O5YAheTmI/w-d-xo.html . Then I suggest you slow down this lesson (use the settings button [gear wheel] bottom left of view screen) this will help you to watch what I do. I hope this helps N&J
Hi Cory, thanks for the comment, it was remiss of me not to acknowledge the song writer, I usually do. Neil Diamond did indeed write the song for the Monkees and also played acoustic guitar on their version recorded in 1966. At this time Diamond worked as a song writer in the Brill building, so no the Monkees did not cover his song, they sung the song he had written for them. Diamond actually covered the song himself a year later on his second album, but by then the Monkees original was the biggest selling single in 1967. He wrote some great songs. Cheers N&J🎸
@@nickharris1331 As I have small hands/fingers and had trouble with this, would it be fine to use the shortcut of 5th string 3rd fret, then open 4th string hammer into 4th string 3rd fret
That's true Howie. I put the F in to make up for the lack of Bass player when playing alone - the original bass line suggests a chord change where I play the F. Horses for courses, if you want to play a more original line then miss out the F and hang on to the D. Cheers N&J🎸

Excellent job! Quick question this may sound dumb but what is the strumming pattern you used? Thanks

It’s a Neil Diamond song, and The Monkees covered it. Proper attribution is important.

How do you do Riff #2 so easily... you don't move the 1st finger at all
That's right, 1st finger holds down both strings so you don't need to move it. Hope this helps.

There is no F in the verses.
