    Nice video with lots of info; thanks! I’ve been thinking about a new machine, but haven’t gotten serious yet. I have the exact Pfaff your mom gave you, bought it in early ‘90s when I had a sewing business. The embroidery stitches came in very handy. Now I want to quilt and the Pfaff is very difficult on larger items. Now to go read some of your blog posts. 😊

    Do you still love it? I have two Janome’s and I love them. The first one was used and is still a great work horse. After many years of using it and getting much more into quilting I bought another one with a few more bells and whistles. Two of my favorite features are the hover feature and the 1/4” quilting stitch. If you have not yet tried the leg lifter it is pretty handy.

    I love my Janome machine. I’m in the process of replacing it to a much better model but at roughly 14 years old it’s still going strong. The main reason I’m getting a new one is I can afford to get a much better machine now. I’m not trading in my old one because it’s worth more to me than I’d get trading it in and as it’s a lot smaller and lighter than my new one I can use it as my portable machine for workshops, classes etc.

    After watching your videos, I decided to buy a Janome MC6650 like yours. It is brand new out of the box and it is making a weird noise when I stop Sewing. I just wonder if you ever had any trouble with your sewing machine and if you still like it? And does it do everything you expected it to do? Thank you I love your videos. You’re very straightforward and very easy to understand.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is a semi industrial machine, so it does make more noise than others! I think I know the noise you mean so I think it’s normal, but I can’t know for sure if it’s the same noise mine makes lol. It also makes noise when you push the thread cut button.

    I have a 1973 singer that is more heavy duty machine structurally than heavy duties of today. I used it for flannel and denim, and bags, also had a basic 3yo 20 stitch machine for lightweight clothing. Now my 20 stitch jams every time, tried everything to fix it. Now I can’t use it. Now I use the 1973 machine all the time. It has 3 stitches. Enough to sew clothes with. I would like a modern machine, I don’t have the budget to get one.

      You really can’t beat those old workhorse machines, I’ve been so grateful for mine! Thankful for the new one too, of course, but I’ll never part with that 1960s Pfaff 💕

      @@PinCutSew Same with my old one. I would get it serviced before buying a new one, it’s lasted almost 50 years without being serviced, but I’ve maintained it regularly, by cleaning and removing old grease and replacing the grease.

    Bernina is overrated. I’ve had both… and still have them as I hate to get rid of electronics unless I can give them to someone who understand the value…but Pfaff/Janome are top of the line in my opinion. The only exception would be a non-computerized older Bernina. I recently purchased a longarm called a Moxie because it was within a reasonable price point at $5,000. It takes a lot of space but it’s like drawing with thread! My son has CP and is in wheelchair and he’s able to quilt once I get it loaded up.

    Do you like the automatic thread cutter? Some reviews say its a problem.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I do use it a lot, but it does still leave a tiny thread to be snipped, but I definitely wouldn't say it's a problem. I DO love it when I'm top stitching applique or something and don't want a visible backstitch. I can push the knot button and then the cutter and it knots and cuts it on the underside, so the top looks perfect!

    Please stop asking people to subscribe and like your video at the beginning when someone like me who is on your channel for the first time. It's fine as a reminder at the END of the video if people choose to do so. But it makes no sense to ask people to "pay up" before the product or service has been "delivered".

    This is my DREAM machine! I also have a cheapie one, the exact Pfaff your mom gave you, too. We as sewers start with a pile of machines? LOL I’m curious how it compares to the Pfaff with the idt. I am still torn between a new pfaff and this one. I can’t decide!! I appreciate your vid today!! Enjoy that machine.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! So far, I haven’t missed the IDT. In fact, with my older machines, I was sometimes frustrated because I HAD to use the IDT for a nice stitch quality, which was frustrating when installing an invisible zipper, for example, or using other feet that weren’t supposed to be used with IDT.

    I hope you're loving this machine now that you've had it for a few months. I just purchased this exact one after weeks of research. I went over my initial budget, however I decided when I found this 6650 that I should invest in a machine that would last a long time. I also could never afford a Bernina, but then I read one review online from a quilter stating she loved this Janome more than her Bernina - I was sold!

    • @PinCutSew

      I've found my needle threader works best with Janome's needles, and when I make sure to make the needle screw pretty tight with a little screw driver. But honestly, it's still not perfect!

    Thank you so much! I'm so excited I found your review. I've been a subscriber for a little bit but didn't realize that you taught sewing to kids. I do too and I love it! I have two homeschool groups right now. I have several basic brothers in my studio and have a few workhorses as well. I've been interested in buying a new machine because like you, I have never bought myself a really nice machine and I would LOVE a larger throat size. My cousins and aunt are faithful Bernina users but I just can't pull the trigger. The frugal part of me just puts my foot down. So I narrowed it down to the Janome Memory Craft. I'm hoping my local dealer has it!!! The Janome Memory Craft 6700 is double the price of the 6650.

    Years ago, I bought a new Pfaff and was so disappointed to find how inferior it was to my old Pfaff. Instead, I bought a refurbished Pfaff, the same model as your mom's. It's great, but not as intuitive as the newer machines. I also bought a Juki for straight-line sewing. The combination works great for me, but your new machine looks marvelous!

    My Mom taught me to sew in my teens on her machine. It’s a Phaff 360. I used it in HS to make myself cute tops, vests and whatever creative idea popped in my head. LOL. My Dad bought it for her when I was 3. I just turned 60. I had it serviced and it is an amazing work horse. I had owned a singer and a white that both quit on me in my 20’s and 30’s and then when my Mom passed I started using her machine again it to make quilts. I do love it. Very easy to thread. Operate…although….Like you mentioned with all your machines it has its limits.
    Thanks for the blog post and this video. I kinda started researching on saving for a new machine and purchasing one but it’s pretty overwhelming. My local quilt shops seem to push Bernina. One I looked at was $16,000. That’s more than my car cost and I have a fairly nice used car that was a dream that my son sold me.
    Anyhoo… does this machine do free motion quilting? I will look at the link and it’s features. 😀 I have been tossing around the idea of purchasing a handi quilter for quilting my own projects but it’s 5,000 for a table model. I may be able to find a used one at a lower cost.
    Again, I will read you post on your blog and this may help to define my needs/wants. Thanks for posting this video!
    PS. I purchased your pillow case PDF and made a bunch of cute pillow cases for friends and my adult kids for Christmas this last year. Simple great pattern and tutorial!

    would like to know if you still love the machine - I read an honest review and the woman stated it was very finicky with feeding the material - said it eats the material of she is not super careful. just curious before I spend the big bucks? (I am new into sewing bought a janome 3160 and I basically really enjoy making simple purses and zip pouches - the 3160 is great but when trying some thick corners and boxing the corners I find it a tad sticky..nothing unmanageable but I doubt I could graduate to making more elaborate purses without something a little beefier).
