SimplyReg I am the same age as you and also an old punk. Listen to "The Other Side" - it will transport you back to the last 60's sitting in your living room watching the first manned lunar orbit on TV and it will make you cry,
Seen them live a few times and whenever this song comes on the crowd yells out the lyrics with so much energy...they even cheer when it says "the eagle has landed"
Gene Kranz writes in his book about the powered descent. (Steve Bales is the GUIDANCE officer): "I tell the controllers to make their Go NoGo decision based on the last data they think is valid. I trust enough in their judgment and the spacecraft to keep descending without data for a while. I go rapidly around the horn, and all controllers are Go, especially Bales. His “Go!” resounds clearly through the room like a cymbal. He does not need a voice loop today. I chuckle as I continue polling the controllers."
That's Steve Bales, in charge of guidance. He had to deal with several problems that arose during the landing and make some very last minute decisions on the "go no go". Also, check out the website First Men On The Moon (dot com) for a live collection of the different audio and video recordings of the landing (as well as Neil Armstrongs heart rate)!

Absolutely marvellous, the way they turned Mission Control into a song, indeed the way it lent itself to being turned into a song, who'da thunk it? Stand-out song on the album to me, and a fine tribute to one of mankind's greatest moments.
I think it's because NASA spent a long time trying to be very sober and serious about space travel, and accidentally stripped away a lot of the romance, something that only got rediscovered recently. Because romance and awe is NOT a lesser reason to do something! There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that sense of wonder, that thrill of what's over (or above) the horizon. I feel that same sense of awe when I read or see videos about exoplanets, the Cassini or New Horizons missions, or seeing that first aircraft on Mars. It's millions of dollars being spent on optimism, in a world where billions are spent on cynicism.

@@tostare Good point. It can also be argued that the Soviets had a small "victory" in the competition (like the rest of humanity), because although it was two completely opposing world-views between the USA and the USSR, it wasn't some billionaire entrepreneur like Elon Musk who put an American on the moon, but a space programme that was using public funding instead (in a similar way to the Soviet space programme). Obviously it's more complicated than that, but if you wanted to prove to the Russians that "our way" is better, it would be done in a purely capitalist way by some private giant corporation with its own space programme. Happy 50th anniversary, Apollo 11. One of the most inspiring events of my childhood, and it fills me with awe to this day.
Such a good track! It gives me goosebumps and has brought me to tears more than once.
As a 9 year boy who watched Apollo 11 landing live on tv this just takes right back to a little 9 year old boy stunning track guys.
Had to play this for Perseverance landing just now, doing it by its badass self... We need to keep crossing those frontiers!
Had exactly the same Idea...
Smarter every day brought me here
Downs Master SmarterEveryDay Destin brought me over here as well!

Downs Master Ditto! Thanks, Destin!
So good to watch this, 50 years to the minute after I watched Apollo 11 land live on TV. Great work guys 👍
Goosebumps man! This is incredible, a work of art.
I was recently in Scotland and they were celebrating the Apollo Moon Landing and were playing Moon landing and space songs all day. This was one that they played and I had to search it down and purchase it! I LOVE it and play it quite frequently. VERY COOL!
I only started to listen to the Hello Internet podcast a couple of weeks ago, which is amazing, and they directed me to your music which is at least as amazing!
Tim
Cant believe I just seen these guys on Football programme , great sound, love it.
my friend just showed me this. i am gratefully happy.
A friend of mine, knowing I was a huge space-program nerd (especially the Apollo program) recommended this to me. He was right, I loved it! Even without the added Apollo sights and sounds it's still a very good track on its own - the rest is just the cherry on the top!
I've just purchased it on iTunes and will definitely be giving the rest of your work a listen to!
This sends shivers down my spine and I was born a good 30 years after the moon landing. This is the power of humanity working together
HUGE shout out to "Guidance" - I love the enthusiasm!!!!!
