Well, even with the Wep Art on the DragonSlayer Great Axe. You vould use it in inventive ways like replacing a riposte with that Wep Art for semi - optimal damage. But with the st00pid Sword Spear: The initial set up takes too long, the gesture is easily spotted in any situation, the only upside is the buff. Other than that, I'll expend my magic and use the wep art to display stupidity in pvp

The damage usually scare them so they try to roll away, and then i catch them with the spear? But question: does the leo ring work when enemy is rolling?
The weapon art really is fucking amazing, I was doing some pvp with this weapon yesterday and I got so many perfect wins that I started using a torch or off-hand caestus/fist to try and finish people off so they would have some form of a chance, also ended up getting a lot of chuggers who had no idea what they were doing and ended up running out of estus before even hitting me. It's fantastic when someone tries to use an Avelyn or some other long firing weapons, fish for backstabs, panic roll, slow weapons in general, spells with long casting times or thinking they can get off ones with short casting times but actually can't, chuggers, people who think they know what spacing is, buffers, people who see you turn your back to them and run up to you only to realize "oh shit it's a lightning bolt", people who think they can out poise you, etc.

I ended up making a pyro build and got tired of bosses that were resistant to fire so I looked at this weapon and weapon "well it has lightning instead so ill try that for my weapon and have 2 elements." Best decision I've made in dark souls yet. Black serpent can lead into the light one handed attack and then just keep comboing from there.
I know that I'm 3 years late, but the reason they don't roll is probably that they expect the nameless king's timing (he has the same attack, but there is a delay between the spear rising and the lightning hitting)

I believe many players forget that the nameless king's area is unlocked with the gesture therefore not alot of players have the weapon, I've only come across maybe 3-5 players in months of PvP even now
I think that this weapon is pretty gud on 3v3s or brawls, so you can lighting zip whenever other people are not looking, however the weapon art is not so good in 1v1, if your opponent knows it ofc
I’d argue it’s one of the best weapon arts. Think about it at best you do stupid damage off the lightning strike and a lightning buff. At worst a lightning buff. There isn’t a down side.
Pro tip: get some boys that are running sorcery and have them put a bunch of pestilent mist, it deals 1000 dmg+ every time and you can just run away and dodge when its active, you can also kill wolnir by putting a mist on his bracelet without attacking and you can kill him without fighting, same with the crystal sage in grand archives
That’s easily my favorite weapon in ds3 I use it on my miracle caster build at sl 125 which has 16 str 22 dex and 60 faith, while buffed I get an AR of about 580, which is not optimal but still does extremely good damage and I’m pretty sure the weapon art does more damage with higher faith, it’s got probably the most diverse move set of any weapon in the game, it can roll catch easily, it is extremely good for keeping pressure on enemies with that running attack, its wide sweeps let me bait and punish backstab fishers with ease, it’s double move set lets me make an opponent change how they approach me, and let’s me easily switch my play style if something happens, my main gripe with it is the high requirement for use, it’s hard to put it with a fully dedicated miracle build, but still worth the extra points imo and borderline overpowered Seriously this thing could have below 400 ar and would still be a damn good weapon for the move set alone

As someone who doesnt care that much bout pvp, this is my fav weapon. The WA not only is stronger than most miracles, i think only being outdamaged by point blank sunlight spear, but also does more dmg than sunlight spear at range. The move set is fun and can do more dmg from hitting that sweet spot, tho its hard to know where the spot is. This weapon makes my faith build happy
Also btw the WA has the same point blank mechanic as the other lighting miracles (im unsure of the meta build dmg diff) but at that point might as well unfaltering prayer sunlight spear
hey @ChaseTheBro you should try out the Carthus curved greatsword with lightning infusion on a faith build. The weapon gets an A or S scaling in faith, i can't remember exactly which but I think it would be cool to try out.
you could increase the effect of the buff attack with the sword ring or due rts/morion if you want hyper mode it depends on if you want to try invasions with the the weapon but for arena the sword ring is good enough and once you get damaged you can ring swap to something else, this would be my suggestion for a dedicated build for this weapon.
How can so many people not know how that thing works? Nameless King is the best boss in the game! There's constantly phantoms outside his arena waiting to help fight him.

Did you know someone can parry your weapon art if they're inches away from you. Wont matter much because they'll eat the bolt anyways but you'll be sent into the riposte-able state.

I used to run that weapon but I didn't optimize my build around it so I didn't get much out of it. Next playthrough I'll prob do a faith/dex build and use this as my primary weapon.

You use the weapon directly when you start the match, if you are lucky they get hit and take 500-800 damage depending on armor, and if it misses you get a free lightning blade, its like a lightning blade miracle with an attack

Everyone and there mom disagreed with this You have 2 weapon movesets. Plenty of wide swings, long poke range, a lighting bolt with even better range, you can even switch styles of 1 hand and 2 hand depending on what you fight against. And to top it all off the damage with good builds is broken There is no real downside to this weapon. It got range, damage, and versatility of 2 weapon movesets. With the bonus of the weapon art being high long range damage that also happens to buff your weapon... Worst case scenario you buff the weapon amd beat they ass even harder next trade

I'm currently doing a Solaire / Nameless King hybrid cosplay type build. So I'm usin this weapon, the Sunlight Straight Sword, Sunlight shield and 2 pieces of each of their armour. I have less points in Strenght but 40 in Faith. I find that increases the damage of the weapon art.

My idea on why the WA hit so much is because the Nameless King fight there is a delay between the lightning and the end of the animation

I think people don't expect to be hit by the wa, because they are used to seeing it just used as a buff,not a direct attack.
Any decent experience player would know when they see the big spear it's going to shoot lightning and not just buff the weapon
Maybe it hit so many people because in the boss fight it's super delayed while the WA is instant
