Met Kate a few times in the late 70s at festivals on the East Coast....What a friend she was to aspiring singer-songwriters and so gracious to her many fans. She was ill through a lot of this time, but you would never know it, except for taking a long naps or one of her devoted friends traveling with her would signal her, time to take meds or a break or something to gently remind her to take care of herself. I remember a campfire late one nights in Elkins, WV, Our numbers were dwindling with the late hour, but we were still singing and playing strong. Kate was our leader and she wasn't about to stop till the last song was played or sung. Somehow we became aware that maybe we should let her go to bed and someone asked her to play the last song. "Give Yourself to Love," was the unanimous choice and the tem or so of us all carried the song to it's conclusion. I remember her radiant smile and soft voice thanking us for helping her throughout the campfire and for letting her lead us. The notes of "Give yourself' were still echoing through the mountain woods and a feeling of incredible peace came over all of us. Including Kate. She started gently weeping and said, "I will miss you all so much, but I'll always be here in song..." We stood and gathered together and held hands as each one of us told her how much she and her music had meant to us over the years and we would always carry her with us. Of those ten people, I am the sole survivor and I carry Kate's tunes and lyrics in my memory and my heart. What a precious gift we were given and how beautiful she and her music still are....
I was married 30 years ago today, 1993, to the love of my life and this song was sung by a beautiful guitar playing friend. We were divorced in 2011 after 23 years together and it was time, but the sentiment of this beautiful song remains. Thank you Kate.....
Sad that the Kate Wolf festival is coming to an end. I went twice and had a beautiful experience. I resonate with her so much , her gorgeous deep voice and her love of nature , woven into her music.

I met Kate in 1976. I was new to santa rosa california and my brother and I played at a place called The Belvedere where Kate played on weekends. She was a sweetheart and invited us to play at the santa rosa folk festival that year. it is more than fitting that festival be named these days after Kate. I learned of Kate Wolf the day she died. I was taking a tree ID class at Merrit College in Oakland when our instructor underneath a persimmon tree announced she had passed away that morning I think it was. I picked up an LP or two of hers that weekend and fell in love with her songs

I recently came across Kate and was taken by her voice and the words of the song. I looked up further recordings and was so sad to find that she had left this world at her age. Her demise is so sad but on the other side she has left us with songs and words beautifully enhanced by her voice. I find it difficult to describe what i feel but she leaves me with a feeling of love and melancholy. I will never be able to see her nor thank her for her work but one thing i can do is spread her songs to others that have never heard of her. Such beauty only lasts for such a short period. Being from New England there was just "that something" about her music that I loved about being here in California, especially the North Bay. I saw her live a few times, and named my first guitar after her. Although not a performer, I learned to play some of her songs and they still mean a lot to me. What a bountiful treasure of songs she left.
I could listen to Kate Wolf, Sandy Denny, Karen Dalton, Lal Waterson and Mimi Farina for days onto days.. all sadly gone so early ... so inspiring..so introspective..
My wife and I are going through a rocky stage in our lives. Part of it is not realizing how strong love is but the same time, how vulnerable it is. Hi Melanie, I never met Kate and only learned of her in 2009. I’ve attended every one of her memorial concerts since and met most of her family as they always have a booth selling CDs and other memorabilia there. I’m acquainted (I’ll say friends) with both Max and Hannah. Of course I cannot speak on their behalf but I can say they have lovingly spoken of her, in public, a number of times at the annual festivals. They both are still intricately involved in continuing her legacy. I read somewhere, (on line or one of her CD jackets), that, early in her career, there were a few months she lived in her car while trying to earn money from various gigs. If you ever come to the festival (the 2018 is in 2 weeks) be sure to stop by the Kate Wolf booth. She has a wonderful family including a number of grandchildren and most of them are there most of the time.

Why does the sound stop halfway through the 8:14 minute clip? Am I the only one this happens to?
Sorry Joy - it was the way I uploaded it. The sound finishes when the actual track does - there is none of it missed out, it's just that the programme I used automatically made it a longer track with the rest of it silence.
I know, right? it does that to me too. They must have forgot to turn off the mic or something, or taped over her talking or the next song to put it on another track.
