Thanks Ryan, I have been following Jaime for a while now and have only recently come across yourself. After putting all the tips from Jaime to practice I have still managed to gain alot of knowledge from your video's so thanks, it just goes to show no matter how much you learn there is always more to discover.
when everyone can understand that ""easy"" concept: DEEP AND LIGHT will discover a true key in the process of the arts;because not all have the oportunity of a artist formation in art school.and any stencil become to be a secondary tool, only for support; and our works become to be a better and better...practice ,practice... thanks ryan for be generous and very god young teacher...keep fighting.
Awesome Ryan!! I totally agree on the learning the basics of rendering. Not just how to use an airbrush. The nice thing about learning how to draw from using the basic shapes is you can, after some practice, pick things out of your head and put em on paper.
I was looking at this great video and a light came on, Thanks for that, now things are becoming much clearer and I see where my art is kinda flat, new at this and am 67 and been practicing because I want to airbrush my own bike. I will keep on looking at your videos, You are greatness.
Can’t thank you enough for this great video. A lot of people can’t get to airbrush conventions and there’s no place for me to learn up here. That’s why solid tutorials like this are so important to me! Thank you
What you said about T Shirt artists and people control really helped me. I was about to return all of my equipment until I saw this video. I have a good understanding of art and you showed me it’s possible for me. Thank you.
It's good to see artists share techniques and tricks now days. Years ago that didnt happen, everyone was afraid you'd get better than them. Thanks for the tips bro. Now I just have to practice practice practice.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I just began airbrushin a few weeks ago and I think with your tutorial I will become better soon. Your english is easy to understand (for me) and your reasens are understandable. really, it's great!
Great video. I just did a freehand skull (my first) and it came out looking pretty decent. Way better than I expected, and that's down to the excellent teaching and clarity of method. You're now one of my favorite channels.
OMG FINALLY someone who understands!!!! Ryan i can tattoo and airbrush and everyone thinks im good but its all just stencils!!! I dont know why some peices turn out good and others dont. I dont understand ART. WHERE DO I START? I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO THINK LIKE AN ARTIST SO I AM THE MASTER OF MY OWN PROJECT AND NOT THE STENCIL :) HELP ME!!!!!
Thank you Ryan for taking the extra time to explain each step, and break them down into understandable pieces. You are a big help and huge inspiration. I know it's hard to paint and keep the airbrush out ot the way to be able to show the work, but maybe you could talk to the cameraman. ;) Thanks again.
wow great tutorial! im really keen to get into airbrushing as i have a passion for art and am a qualified furniture spray painter with a little automotive experience. ive only ever painted art on canvas with acrylic paints. all i need now is an airbrush kit keep up your videos Ryan love your work! (watching from AUS)
thanks a lot for teaching us theory ,ect, not everyone can attend college or university to learn these things and they'r so important for developing ones skill as an artist.not everyone can appreciate how important learning about art, even art history is to developing their skill to the best of their ability.i believe most people like myself can't attend college ect ,not so much for financial reasons but for the inability to spare the time and maintain their household, especially with children.i myself always prefer to be taught, not just what to do, but why.so ,ya thanks a ton for taking your time ,i do appreciate it.
i really like ur video ur really informative and seem highly intelligent and have a good understanding of art lighting and perspective gj looking forward to watching more of ur videos keep up the good work
@BerserkCustomPaint That's so true, even when I thought i had my own kinda style I still changed and improved after gaining further knowledge from artist's like yourself and Jaime. You don't even realise it really, it's mad how the brain works....
you are the only painter i have heard of useing standox paint to airbrush with. i have been spraying standox for 16 years on auto, what msb thinner do you use to airbrush with and what raito. i like the light source, best thing yet for me on your viedos , you said make each part of your art work a picture within a picture, thank for the viedos
Hey Ryan, great video! Its awesome to watch someone work with the airbrush and teach you the tips of the trade. I am just starting out, and have a decent background it art, but nothing in airbrushing. What do you suggest is a great airbrush to purchase that you can get the fine detail with? Also, what type of eraser is that? Can it be used on metal panels? Keep up the great work and vids. Detroit says hello!
'OK' here we go the basic shape's or anatomy of a bird a oval for body/circle for head/triangle for beak.then composing the shapes into a body.thus adding the detail will bring it to life.
i should have watched this video over before i started my last skull, someone else told me i should have started with gray instead of black, i dont know why i didnt think about that, but this video makes sense...
gread video i like how u explain in the first with the light and shadows and the stencil thing i was into graffitti a few years but its allready long time ago but it was the first u learnd abbout light and shadows and their effects to your painting so some of that stencil videos here on youtube really confussed me because i tryed to get what is the meaning abbout why they use the first stencil then the second and so far to me u explained it well but to me freehand looks more easier dont it ?!
can you give me some tips on how to thin paint, pls. I bought an airbrush like 6 months ago and it's just sitting there because i can never get the right consistency. All my paint splashes..
hey i wanted to ask. First i am just starting out with air brushing. I bought an iwata neo gravity feed. I practiced with a skull i cut and it came out pretty good. I guess i got lucky. Any way, the question is when i use createx paint the paper absorbs the paint. is there any other paper i could use to practice, that won't absorb the paint as much.
hi there, luv the vids,,can u tell me more about the paint you use standox, reason being i have been ofered a suply of 5ltr tins of tints car paint ,is it poss for me to use and mix my self ,thanks katie
it's already hard to mimic on a plane (paper) surface a 3D representation of a light and shadow model; what's even harder is to airbrush those tiny lines mixed with difuse spraying by controlling a small lever in a 2 way mode (air+paint) simultaneously while moving your hand steadily
thnk u sir.. ur video is great.. its helps those of us that are actually tryin to give a shit about wat it is that were tryna do wit the airbrush.. havin some troubles wit my airbrush spittin n skippin ive tried blowin out the tip tried cleanin my tip n still im not gettin very good results.. if i spray paper it jus spiders out.. very frustrating.. thnx again.. i hav a masters g44 airbrush..
rona aguirre most prefer to use a double action as the main "work horse" of airbrushing. with double action you can spray the air and the paint separately. when you first press the trigger you get air, then when you pull back you get paint. those are the 2 actions hence "double action. single action sprays paint and air the instant you press the trigger, so its much more difficult to get fine lines and variable size lines. with double action you can vary the size of the lines and darkness of the paint all with the pull of the trigger without stopping painting to make manual adjustments to the gun itself. single action you have to make those adjustments to the gun to get it to make a different size stream. single action is basically like using a tiny spray paint can. single action is great for laying down base coats and covering large areas in single colors. double action is for detail, BUT double can be used very effectively for laying down large areas of single colors as well, so you do kindda only need just the double. and a quick point on your question about acrylic, any paint you can get thin enough to go through the gun you can use. I've used the Apple Barrel colors from Wal-Mart in my airbrush plenty of times, especially for practice and learning a new stencil and such, BUT paints specially formulated for airbrushing are gonna be your best bet as the will thin better, flow better and clean up better, as well as reduce the risk of damaging you gun. whatever paint you use though...ALWAYS clean it out of your gun before closing shop for the night.
man, you are a great artist due to you understand what is the purpose of your art, I am a beginner, with drawing talent, but need to get to that realism, need to practice due to I want to start selling t shirts, I´m from Mexico, do you do course]'
you make deffentligt good videos an d point learn training eyes to see at the time.but you can learn be better in eyes, airguns, drawing just by doing stencils or make skulle on transfer.. May be iam wrong but all custom airbrush start up like that and using all can help you..But you still have to learn drawing and see like artist. last probely one of best to teach right.;-)
Ok Basic Shapes I dont understand! That totally makes it complicated for me. Why not just use the shape it is? Does breaking it down into parts help you figure out where certain things go easier or what? Every drawing book talks about basic shapes and i never understood it. They always start with a circle. WHY? When the drawing doesnt even look like a circle? Please explain cause im lost!!!
Thats not what i meant! I mean why all the drawing books use basic shapes, circle, square, triangle, rectangle, to teach you to draw when the thing you are drawing sometimes isnt any of these shapes!!! For example when drawing a bird, how do I start drawing it using basic shapes? I dont understand!!! Please Explain...
Alphonsos DaMan drawing and knowing the basic shapes will help in your shading. Arm for example is a cylinder. So if you shade the basic shape you already have set up 75% of your drawing. Next would then be the anatomy of the muscles
This is A real good instructionvideo. No nonsens and good practice! Greets from The Netherlands👍
Agreed Ton, cheers from Australia ✌🦘
Thanks Ryan,

This shit is gold. Best airbrush videos I've seen.

this was the first video i ever liked on youtube
this helped me a lot with light and shading thanx for the help
Very good pointer on light, shadow and highlights.
OMG FINALLY someone who understands!!!! Ryan i can tattoo and airbrush and everyone thinks im good but its all just stencils!!! I dont know why some peices turn out good and others dont. This is amazing. It makes so much sense the way you explain it. Thank you.

@BerserkCustomPaint That's so true, even when I thought i had my own kinda style I still changed and improved after gaining further knowledge from artist's like yourself and Jaime.
You don't even realise it really, it's mad how the brain works....
That was awesome. I have always drawn skulls, but they weren't quite right. I now know why. Thank you
I agree my teacher from my last semester said shape is mainly key:) once you see in shape and mass drawing its easier!!
you are the only painter i have heard of useing standox paint to airbrush with. i have been spraying standox for 16 years on auto, what msb thinner do you use to airbrush with and what raito. i like the light source, best thing yet for me on your viedos , you said make each part of your art work a picture within a picture, thank for the viedos

can i use a acrylic paint for air brush?please respect my comment im a newbie for air brushing thank you
rona aguirre yes you can. There's lots of brands out there. I use Wicked Colors by createx a lot.

i FOUND SOME PAPER THAT WORKS WELL IS WATERCOLOR PAPER.

lmao i thought that was bob marley
Yea, it's too bad he doesn't have control of his brush!
