Great intro to black water diving. I hope you develop this dive for the future business. Your calm, clear voice is perfect for tutorials. Good luck in the future.
Thank you. Black water diving is a very cool type of dive, and its great to start to see it becoming more accessible and popular. Thanks for watching and commenting, we also hope this video helps future business. All the best, Jeff
Happened to see an article on black water diving and decided to look here for some videos. Found yours and I have to say not only is this super cool, the combination of your music and the beauty of the dive is more relaxing than most meditations I e tried! Thank you for sharing this. Absolutely wonderful! I e always been terrified of water at night but this definitely opened up a whole new world. Very, very AMAZING 😍
Wow! Thank you. We’re thrilled to hear you found our video both super cool and relaxing. Blackwater diving is certainly equal parts a little unsettling, especially when just getting in the water, and relaxing. Because once you’re under the water, it’s so peaceful. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Have you heard of anyone spotting a blanket octopus doing this kind of dive? Ever since I saw one during broad daylight I’ve been itching to see another as I’ve heard it’s one of the rarest creatures to see while diving SoFlo. Only ever seen one and it was on a dive site I’ve spent hundreds maybe even thousands of hours diving. Thanks for the content and info!
Wow. A blanket octopus would be incredible to see. Unfortunately, we've never seen one, not even while black water diving. Maybe you'll get another chance encounter again someday. That's one thing we enjoy so much about diving. The more time you spend in the water, the more opportunities you have to find something rare. All the best, and sorry for the late reply. We had to take a break from the channel. Jeff
Just a new thumbnail for the black water journey 😀 We were impressed by how far Jeff traveled during the dive - 5.2 miles! That seahorse is my favorite! - - Sara
Wow! That is impressive! Considering you are swimming where things could come up and go bite in the night ! You should have a series on the discovery or history Channel
Thank you! This was such an amazing dive. Felt like floating in space. We’d feel honored If Discovery or the History channel ever reached out, and would certainly jump at the opportunity. 👍😀 Thanks again for watching.
Thank you! This was a great experience we had to do at least once. Couldn't tell how fast we were moving while underwater. The diversity of tiny sea life was amazing!
Hi Jeff you should really be on TV I just watched it again on my phone spectacular ! And if it was on TV it would be something else again it is something the public never gets to see Years ago I did a dive out of fort Lauderdale I took pictures of turtles and all kinds of fish I have no idea of what they are you describe everything in such detail once again very well done! If I was on that dive I would have a line on the buoy the whole way
Pretty exciting and a bit scary dive to say the least hehe. Your buoyancy control in the water is paramount at this point. Great shot of the pigmy sea horse! What lens did you use for that?
Great question and sorry for the delayed response, we were diving Socorro in Mexico and just returned from our trip. I hope you had an incredible dive. This was our first real attempt at Black Water video/photography. So we're not experts in this area, but find that positioning the lights inline with the lens and down a little created the best results. Somewhere around the 8:00 and 4:00 positions on a clock. Thanks for watching and commenting. -- Jeff
Thanks, we had a great dive and I managed to get some good shots. We were lucky enough to have the author of the Blackwater book on the boat and she gave us some great tips.
@@TritonsRealm I’ve been subscribed for a week or so now and love your videos: nothing fancy, no nonsense, interesting dives. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming!
Just watched shark week on TV Would you do this same dive off cape Town with breaching great whites ? With your Garmin iridium if you drifted off you could tex the boat You could also take along a waterproof vhf with built in GPS in a hard case and call then up the advantage of the iridium is the size and if you hit the panic button you have satellite tracking (and deal with the aftermath later main idea get out of the water) I noticed in ove of your videos you have a online store do you have the link and do you ship to Canada? Have a great day !
The dive off Cape Town with Great Whites would be exciting, and we'd certainly be up for it. Maybe one day we'll have the opportunity. Below is a link to our online store. We do night dives here in Monterey. A bit of bioluminescence but the best is that’s when the octopus come out. And it’s an epic shore dive
Very cool. We’re hoping to make it out to Monterey this summer. Not sure on timing yet, but a night shore dive sounds like a ton of fun. 👍
Very cool dive. Not sure I am brave enough yet for black water diving, but the sea life looks amazing!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I was excited to see the sea life Jeff got on film - the comb jellies and the seahorse are my favorites! - - Sara
Loved this and so wanted to try this. Thought it was another black water dive with new thumbnail 😂

Love black water drift dive in SoFL
We agree! This was an awesome dive!
love the dive . wonder what a black light would pickup or a fluorodive kit
Thank you! Great question. We'll have to bring a fluorodive kit and find out next time.

On this dive I used our primary camera setup which is a Panasonic GH5s with 2 Keldan 8x lights. Thanks for watching.

We wear duals sometimes hang an 80 or 2 for pony bottles
Going by point Edward there is a 12 ft high water intake extending 1000 feet out in the river flush with the bottom and a ditch 12 ft deepand 50 ft across on the other with the water swirling around
One of my buddies Albert got sucked into the vortex and was stuck in there for half an hour eventually it spit him out the end
Anybody else would be gone
Now when we do the superman as a group Albert is going down the river just a little higher tan every body
It is average 55ft deep in the river with the current if you get disoriented or other emergence situation you don't go up you go down then take a compass course for canada
That's quite a dive! Glad your friend made it out of the vortex.
