I love how you teach your kids and make opportunities for them to connect with the rest of the world and learn that the rest of the world have similar family values.

I'm an American too who has been to Malaysia three times. I love getting new ideas for things to do there and cooking Malay food with locals and learning how to fly a drone are now on my list. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and also providing links. p.s. I also thought the Batu Caves were just so so. On the other hand, I went to Penang last year for the first time and it was wonderful.

You are like the 27th person to say Penang is wonderful. We've got another 10 days here in Malaysia; we definitely need to go. And thank you, thank you for sharing your new desire to add some experiences from our list onto your list. We hope we're not making these videos in a vacuum. It's so nice to hear that there is some air in our efforts (as in, without air, no sound emanates . . . silence).

Lol. Yeah, Penang is lovely. Fyi...I rented a bicycle for less than $3 for seven hours and covered so much territory in four hours, which is more than enough.
I really like how your videos show your apartment, the streets of KL...just the everyday living and enjoying of life. A lot of small but delightful stuff. Very nice video quality and editing, btw. Enjoy the rest of your adventure in beautiful Malaysia. :-)

2:07 Totally agreed. I wish the cave systems were returned to it's natural state, without those temples and such. It's a nuisance, really. I heard that before there was the temples, it used to be thriving with animals and pre-historic artifacts.

The contrast in experiences between the Caves and the cooking class illustrates how we prefer to travel: Batu Caves--well known, a KL 'attraction,' and visited by many vs. unknown, barely advertised, and visited by next to no one (except discerning AirBnB Experience shoppers). It was meh vs. amazing. We need to find more homes to visit!
That was a nice shot: Farizul was flying the drone for the sunset shot.

Abid Zainal Though that is where the LDS Church headquarters are, we are not from there. Ren, my wife, is from Brazil, and I’m from no where. I have never lived in one place for more than four years for my whole life. We started our travels in Seattle, WA.

my bad..coz i always have this idea that most of those who went to LDS Church are mainly from Utah (stereotype)..lol ...coz i always see so many “Elders" here in KL and i was kinda curious..No offence…anyway enjoy your stay buddy and stay safe…please treat my country like your own..cheers...

There are a LOT of Mormons from Utah, but the majority of Mormons, by far, live outside of Utah.

i think the meal is called "nasi dagang" instead of coconut rice or "nasi lemak". it is synonym to the state of Terengganu east coast of peninsular malaysia.

    • @DrMikeVernon
      @DrMikeVernon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think you're right, it is nasi dagang. But whatever it is called, it is truly, really delicious.

You're lucky to have locals that know how to cook delicious Malay food. If you want to try variety kind of foods especially by Mamak (Indian Muslim), you need to come to Penang. Just 4-5 hours from KL.

I’m sure this question isn’t surprising coming from me, but I’m curious how you and your bodies feel different with all these new foods, flavors, forms of exercise, new schedules, etc.? Are you sleeping better? Are you able to cope with stressful situations better? Are you able
to listen to your bodies better since you are away from the standard American way of life? Curious...

That looked like it was an awesome experience being able to do that. I remember our parents taking us back home as kids to visit our home country (romania) and being able to see how they cooked in the country, on open wood fires with big cast iron pots, Home made brick/clay ovens... it is a truly fascinating experience.
The drone class 👍👍 loved that shot with the sun peaking out through the buildings!

I almost never get stressed, so that hasn't change. I will say that the last four weeks has been better because we are in one place. Moving to a new apartment every week is challenging because it prevents routine. I mean, it takes a week or so just to get a feel for a routine. Where do we get food? How do we get around from here? What will we do here? Etc. My body feels fine. I have a lot more time to exercise, which I'm doing. We cook at home, but we also eat out a lot. Generally, there have been much more healthy choices eating out than America, except in Australia. Australia has many eateries serving some unhealthy food, relatively speaking. Above all, it's heaven not having to manage so much stuff, which lends itself to more family time, more sleep, and more creatively. Loving that!

I believe you are still in KL today Monday 21 May 2018. Since its Ramadhan do try to visit the Ramadhan bazaars. You could sample the various food, Malay, Asian, Western and fusion. And will you be in Malaysia still till Raya or Aidil Fitri, the end of Ramadhan fasting month celebrations. It would be great if you could experience that.
