If you actually watch and take notice of the fights Klaus had against all three, you'll be able to determine that Alaric was actually the weakest of them. In a pure strength battle, Marcel and Lucien are stronger there's not even a debate.

Mikael full of werewolf bites and without drinking vampire blood almost killed Elijah. He also almost killed Klaus in that same condition, if it weren't for Papa Tunde's blade, Klaus would have died in the 1v1 with Mikael. Their difference in strength is notorious when Mikael manages to take Papa Tunde's blade out of his own chest by himself without making any effort, Klaus was trapped in the blade for months.
It makes no sense for him to be below his children. Unlike them, human blood doesn't even satisfy Mikael's hunger. He's so strong that only vampire blood makes him stronger.

I just rewatch the originals series.Such much stuff i missed. A big one is when Elijah asked Marcel to compel him in order to forget everything. Marcel asked how ,then Vicent said Marcel you haven't even begin to tap into the power the ancestors gave you.That means no one couldn't defeat Marcel.The show ended in season 5 so they never did address it
