So crazy that thing is still working. The attempted reflow and tearing off the battery connector without taking out any nearby components. So glad you got it working!
The motor bushings will eventually need a light oil but that's after many years of heavy use. I find that the laser sled rails get dry every two years or so and need a little grease (I've used general grease for nylon gears and white lithium grease). Avoid petroleum based lubricants as it can damage nearby plastic parts from off gassing. I'd inspect the mechanism yearly to hear if there's any excessive squeeking/mechanical noise and relubricate as necessary.
@@sjm4306 that's awesome thank you! Do you clean off old grease when acquiring a new player, before adding new grease? If so can you tell me what cleaner you use?
This poor MD player was owned by a DIY Guy and his chunky HW store soldering iron...SIGH Please, PLEASE mount your camera on a desk lamp arm ! The constant movement is like a Bourne Supremacy fight scene 🤢🤮
@sjm4306 I just got an excellent AliExpress "Bracket M-G" universal bike mount for about $12, it works with my tripod too. Recommended ... But even a broom handle and some large rubber bands works in a pinch.

Loved this video - I have a soft spot for MDs myself. Fixed a few too, but your repair is next-level. Thank you.

nice video.. do more on minidisc...
This was awesome, I wish I could repair the headphone cable/remote on my Minidisc player
Great video. The negative battery contact... Does it have corrosion?
It had a little corrosion that I scraped off and neutralized with a little vinegar and then cleaned with ipa.
SJM the "MD" surgeon.
I share your disdain of sloppy seconds in all forms.

Absolutely clean off the old grease using isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds.
@@sjm4306 thank you!
Hello, Can I send you (2) MZ-E95 for repair?
🧑🏻💻👍🏻👌🏻
Hi I have an original 3DS that could use a repair can I send it to you?
Shoot me an email at sjm4306@gmail.com with some info about what's wrong with it
mine doing weird things with the motor
Like what?
@sjm4306 it does not rotate smooth, the lens motor is not moving at all and shows NO DISC
I wonder if the spindle motor needs to be relubricated? Sounds like it cant see the disc since the mechanism isn't spinning up correctly.
@@sjm4306 thank you, i'll check
