Greg Weisman liked the "mission isn't over/comes first" line so much he made it the main theme for Young Justice Also I liked how in this version they flipped Bruce being all in for the Justice League and Superman being more reluctant to join
@Pap DM a fun change. Ya know what else? This is the only version I can think of where Batman's contingencies for the other Leaguers are used to actually come in handy. Superman even defends Batman for having them.
I really love The Batman. That show while not quite as good as Batman the Animated Series, some characters like Catwoman, Hugo Strange, Batgirl and surprisingly Firefly, where much better handled than in the Animated Series. It also has one one of the best alternate versions of Clayface.
Random thought, but imagine a ClayFace collecting tanks of JokerGas, FearGas, and Venom... Then dropping little blobs of HimSelf in each, and mixing different amounts of each chemical in to create his own minions. (Think DBZ's Cell JRs and all the various Symbiots in Marvel)
The Dick Grayson intro episodes were pretty good but one of my faves is the Green Arrow ep. It shows Ollie as someone who cares both in and out of his costume. It really does the character justice.
Always loved Kevin Micheal Richardson’s Joker, especially in the episode he switches with Batman, and Joker has the suit on. He doses Bats with some Joker toxin, and he’s laughing the entire time, while Joker acts brooding and does narratives.
Eyyy, it's nice to see some 2005 Batman appreciation. I feel that series is super underrated, and I'd love to see some content concerning its unique take on the Batman mythos
Me too. This series to me may not be as thought-provoking or challenging as its predecessor (Batman: The Animated Series), but I genuinely like how simple and episodic it is with its stories not trying too hard to over-complicate the character or ground him towards being more realistic, introducing unique takes on these iconic characters and villains, Joker, Batman/Bruce, Alfred, Robin/Dick, Batgirl/Barbara being some of my favourite characters
@@GamerSlyRatchet1 2004 the batman used to be my favorite batman show FOR A WHILE but after watching it for years, it got old. Batman as a kind of enduring spirit of justice that can never fully die is a really interesting and cool idea. It reminds me of that one episode of Justice League where the team gets flung into Future Gotham to meet Old Bruce and Terry, and there’s that one exchange between the Batmen of different generations. Terry: “Things have changed.” Young Bruce: “Are criminals still superstitious and cowardly?” Old Bruce: “Yep.” Young Bruce: “Good enough.”
Am still mad that we didn't spend more time with Batman exploring and taking Neo Gotham City in. He's a man on a mission, but just one scene of him really taking in the passage of time on his beloved city that was falling apart before him would've been interesting.
Of all the versions of Batman on the TV and movies, this one has to be the most “pure” Batman to date He has that drive yet he’s not completely paranoid or distrusting everyone He truly believes and inspires the people he meets in a positive way. Sometimes I wish we can see more of this kind of Batman
I love this show, especially how when they couldn't do Two-Face they used elements of the character in their version of Clayface and made an otherwise somewhat uninteresting villain fascinating.
Man, I just gotta say that The Batman easily had one of my favorite Rogues of all time with its Ragdoll interpretation, it’s just a lot of fun to see a Rogue who isn’t as popular get a lot more spotlight
I remember The Batman. Good show, I was lucky enough to see it and TAS as a kid and I think TAS wins out just a bit, but I appreciate how The Batman tried to be its own thing. For instance The Batman's Joker is awesome, as was Firefly. Wasn't as big of a fan of Freeze, but that's cuz its *really* hard to beat the one from TAS.
Can you do an video on Batman: The Brave and the Bold? It would be interesting to explore how that interpretation presents Batman as the ultimate figure of justice, often presenting the morals of the story through his actions then any lessons he learns. If you want more individual episodes to look at instead of watching an entire show (because who truly has the time?), I would recommend "Chill of the Night", or any of the generation focused episodes like "The Golden Age of Justice" and "Sidekicks Assemble". The show is just in love with the early satellite era of League and heroes as symbols that, while they are important for everyone, mean the world to children.
This batman and his series was a perfect update to the classic while putting its own spin on things, theres a reason why this show is remembered for having the healthiest Batman and the Scariest Joker
Grew up watching The Batman as I was too late for BTAS. I do have a special love for that show. It Has its moments for sure and it definitely is underrated solely because it is NOT BTAS. Another fun thing to remember when watching it was how they tried to merge the golden age, almost goofy Batman with the Dark Knight that he had become at that point. I think the writers were mostly successful in that. It has an edge but still lighthearted enough to be a hero for the younger generation.
I loved this version of Batman, I get that it was (arguably) meant for a younger audience than BTAS but it still managed great stories. Absolutely loved the Batman vs Dracula movie!

Something I think is interesting about Batman, and this is more overt in some of the Else World stories, is Bruce, as Batman and Bruce, is a crystallization of the concept of Noblesse Oblige; which literally translates to Noble Obligation, it's a philosophy, mindset, and code of principles that states that those in positions of power are under the obligation to help protect and assist those in less-fortunate positions than themselves. The Noblesse Oblige is expressed in plenty of fictional characters, Batman being among the best examples, in my opinion, but you hardly hear about how people in the real world have also taken to this philosophy.
The first time I watched an episode of The Batman, I had a hard time getting into it. Maybe I was still clinging onto the TAS version. But I went back several years later to watch it, and I began to really like this version of Batman.
Okay, just as I hoped, you've given me a deeper appreciation of the earnest Batman and a new perspective on his obsession with the mission. Thanks for distinguishing it from the haunting obsession and reframing it to his earnest belief that changes the world.
Bruce becomes Raz Al Ghul. Creates a League of Shadows that doesn't kill. And I still want Selina Kyle more than anyone else. Even 70 yr old from DKReturns.
The Batman did a lot of good for Bruce Wayne. There was an episode that crowned him the White night. While also acknowledging that Batman was The dark Knight. Titles well-earned.
I love this, as always your work is excellent - I'd like to suggest that the music during the main section was a little too loud, it was a bit harder to understand your voice than normal. Fantasic work!
That episode from 2005 Batman is one of the best, save for the silly detail that he somehow etched all the computer code in 0s and 1s on the walls of the Batcave.
For me it’s the fact that despite they would have news articles of the Waynes deaths and Batman sightings dates with a 10+ year gap in a archive vault the archivists seem to misidentify every bat family member. The binary code carved into the walls wasn’t as silly too me tbh
I really like the character arc for Batman going from vengeance driven to being driven by a sense of moral duty. Less a man broken by the world trying to control the uncontrollable, more a man trying to make a world where nobody ever has to suffer like he did
The Batman is my answer to the edglords who go: "Bruce Wayne is just as guilty for Gotham's problems because he only uses his money to buy gadgets designed to put people into a coma rather than actually helping people by donating his vast fortune to help eliminate the cause of all the crime to begin with- poverty." Very few iterations of Batman- at least in animation and film, have put any emphasis on Bruce's charity work and focused mainly on the "play boy" persona, but out of them all, The Batman is the only one I know of where Bruce takes a strong interest in donating back to the community and to focus on charity work- even BTAS didn't have episodes where Bruce was focused on donating to charity or raising money even as a background plot point. Don't get me wrong, there were episodes in BTAS or films like The Dark Knight trilogy where he would talk about Wayne Industries working on some "revolutionary" product but it was always a commodity or a technological advancement that would benefit the private sector and not the actual people of Gotham. The Batman is the only irritation of Batman in animation and film where Bruce goes through character growth within the series that causes him to drop the "play boy" top 1% persona and really emphasize how his money and company could benefit the people of Gotham- not JUST the Batman. That was one of things that always peaked my interest with the series- that and the banging theme song in the early seasons (the new theme song in the later seasons sucked ass).

I Loved & Still Love This Show As A Kid & An Adult❤. Right Up There With BTAS/Beyond & Justice League The Animated Series/Unlimited As Some Of DC'S Greatest Cartoons
It's so weird to see a version of Batman who's usually very slim and sleek design wise be bulked up so much especially when he still has the youthful voice.
I think what Artifacts tells us is how no matter we change, there will be some things that remain the same. The battle between good and evil is eternal, there can never be a true victor. Mr Freeze is the physical manifestation of Evil while Batman is the spiritual side of Good. While Mr Freeze is physically present but Batman is everywhere even when he's long dead.
Hey, Implicitly Pretentious. Great video and awesome that you just reaffirmed my personal favorite Batman despite not seeming much of the show. This version of the character I feel is the closest to my personality, bit more cheery and bubbly at times without fully loosing himself to the darkness so to speak. Helps me come to grips with the emotions I feel and how it seems like they prevent me from being more "serious", professional or to actually get the job done. Helps me feel like I don't need to lose myself in the darkness that I often face... But for the love of gods the music that comes in around the later half of case study 2 (around the 4:58 mark) REALLY fucks with me man. Possibly keep it lower or use something different? I apologize if I sound really rude but it was like taking mental or psychic damage. Still proud of what you did for the rest of the video and wish you well! 😊

As Some Of DC'S Greatest Cartoons
When I think The Dark Knight Returns I think of this look for him
Batman doesnt lust for vengeance. Except for that one time which we dont need to talk about RIP to the goat sidekick
This is really good. I love this show and am very glad you've given it more attention.
It's so weird to see a version of Batman who's usually very slim and sleek design wise be bulked up so much especially when he still has the youthful voice.
It's weird to see a Batman who's more trusting and actually kinda happy.
You know, apart from Adam West Batman.
@@mitchfletcher2386 Batman comics pre- 2000s has Bruce like this show more often than you’d think
Im waiting for you to cover the joe chill episode in batman the brave and the bold or the one where B'wanna beast dies.
I forgot that Dick wanted to succeed Bruce here. I’m so used to that not being the case
The Batman was soooo good. Glad it got some love!
