im confused he makes money by not singing a single original song and stealing everyone elses songs?? got it/? do the people at least get a royalty for each ticket sold?? kind of messed up really

Yes, he has to pay royalty fees to perform the songs and that goes to ASCAB which pays the original rights holders.

Lots of covers bands make money! The setlists get sent to a collection society who give the royalties to the composers of the tracks.
