  • Jerry Hadley sings Addio fiorito asil in NYC, 1982. Jerry Hadley (June 16, 1952 July 18, 2007) was a student of my teacher from 1978, after getting his masters degree in music from the University of Illinois in 1977. He then started teaching at the University of Connecticut. A 1993 article by Noël Goodwin in Opera magazine stated, "After 15 years Hadley still goes back to this Sicilian American who, he says, gave him confidence and secure knowledge of what he is doing with his voice at any given time, through teaching methods that are direct and physiological." Hadley also stated, "(I was) lucky above all else to have found a teacher in New York without whom I really doubt I could have really built the career I have." Here he displays wonderful balanced vocal registration and release of constriction which are the cornerstones of the technique that he learned and that I teach.

The unforgettable Great Jerry Hadley. He had a great voice, acting, stage presence and amazing technique. So sad to see so many succumb to depression. He had such a bright future. Who knows what was in his heart to try to end such promising life and career.

When I listen to the great singers, there always comes a point at which something grates on my musical nerves; but there are three tenors who never have that effect or who never leave me feeling they missed something. They are Pavarotti, Wunderlich, and Hadley, all now gone. Thank you God for their wonderful talents and beautiful music to soothe and encourage us on our way, for the technology that keeps them singing, and for those who collect and care for the music and publish it here for the world to enjoy. God bless you all.

My sincere and humble tributes to Mr. Jerry Hadley, one of the finest & lyrical American tenors on the occasion of his 70th birth anniversary today.
His rendituon of Addio Fiorito Asil & Pourqui De Revilar will be remembered forever by the lovers of true music.
    Thanks.

I am not sure. Yes, he was great here. Even better by the mid and late 80's. His voice really grew by 1986.

Hadley had a vertical technique that became terribly nasal and spread by 2000 as often does with that style. He sang A LOT since the late 1970’s. Saying in interview that he sang Rodolfo almost 70 X by 1997. He is wonderfully emotional here and effective. He gave good voce for a long time before it and he ran out. RIP.

    • @SilverSingingMethod
      @SilverSingingMethod  ปีที่แล้ว

WRONG! Hadley changed his technique from what he had been taught as you see here in this video which is ani nasal. Nilsson was "vertical" also. He changed it to more what is going on today via idiot teachers like David Jones and the like. Get your facts straight.

Singing is not horizontal or vertical, ha ha! He struggles with Puccini orchestra the voice is not of that proportion. He rushes through the aria , not in what he is best at. I know he is an icon and this is like a blasphemy but it is the truth.Pinkerton is for a spinto tenor or at least lyryco spinto tenor , not pure lyric or lyrico leggero.

@@connormacleod2023 The primary motion of the vocal organs, at least the ones that can be felt and controlled, is an up and down one. Air has to come up and out of the larynx and then directed by the tongue. If singing isn’t vertical, then what is it? I’m not trying to be snarky btw, I’m interested in hearing more of your perspective.

Hello MrCafiero. This comment is not about Hadley, but about something I am very interested in knowing more about, a concept you mention in your FB page: "bel canto is based on developing the voce di petto and falsetto and then combining them". Is there any material specifically about the technical work for this that can be accessed via internet and that you know about? I would be very grateful to know.

The top is precarious. And notice how he has to breathe before ‘ah son vil’, when the tradition is to raise the pitch right from ‘squalor’. (I assume it’s written that way, since naturally one would breathe there.)

    Off pitch in several areas

    • @SilverSingingMethod

Portamenti that are under your control for expression are part of being musical. No one should sing note to note without it. Off pitch. No.

I certainly do. He does slur both pitch and vowel. And he is definitely off pitch in more than one place. Voice thin, tight and strained. Not even close to LoMonaco.

Yes, he opened the "o" vowel in the word "fuggo" to almost an "ah". Otherwise, I must disagree with your assessment.
