My daughter in year 8 (non selective state school) and my son in year 10(grammar school). Both of them have lots of homework and assessments regularly. Usually have one set of homework after 1 or 2 lesson per subject! Grammar schools have even more homework!
That’s a lot! But I think it doesn’t have many questions, right? Because in Hong Kong, one piece of homework consists of at least 20 questions! Comparatively, U.K. doesn’t have much homework for me.
@@SouloinUK I guess depend on the school and also subjects. My daughter doesn’t have homework some days but have a few on other days. The length of it depends on the subject. They usually get a set time to complete not usually the next day. My son’s school definitely have a lot of work as it is a grammar school and he is doing his GCSEs, they push them a lot more.
@@SouloinUK both of their schools are outstanding school and they do have top results in their categories. But they are also very encouraging for them to develop, not just academically.

Grammar schools are not schools with better results. They are schools that are selective. So they chose the most academically capable children and hence they tend to have better results but that does not necessarily mean they are better in teaching. The school terms and holidays generally are set by local authorities but a lot of schools have the autonomy to set their own school terms although most will add up to 39 weeks of school days a year. In addition to local authority controlled schools, there are free schools and academies. These are state schools (government funded) but have a lot of autonomy so they can set their own school terms, curriculum and admission rules. They are not under local authority control but are under Department of Education. I have visited a school as part of my research and they have 5 terms a year, for example. Some free schools have longer school days. Schools used to be able to enter pupils early (in Y10) for GCSEs but this has been banned now. All these apply to England as education is a devolved matter so it will be different if you are in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

That sounds very nice, year 11 does need a push though, but the schools won’t allow students to hand in homework next day.

我覺得可以修飾吓🤣唔止寫呢樣，可以寫埋學校理念，behaviour policy同學生個人成長都同你教育理念相近～不過每間學校都唔同嘅，純粹作參考

English with literature is compulsory for GCSE, not GCE. They can’t skip maths, eng and science for GCSE.

佢9月15歲係會入year 11, 但有學校係會肯安排降一級，你可以先向council register, 表達想降級嘅意願，佢應該會安排/叫你自己約見學校傾.
