As Slovenian I must tell you this: It was exactly the plan of our coach Matjaž Kek to get this draw, they wanted also to be on 3rd Place to get a place in the R16, which they reached. Because England now will get the Netherlands, while Denmark as 2nd getting Germany now. But Slovenia as 3rd now plays vs. Portugal (which we beat 2:0 in March) or the group winner of Belgium-Romania-Ukraine-Slovakia, where myself I fear just Belgium. That's why our team played in the 2nd Halftime "Cattenaccio". Btw your dad was right, my biggest fear was really Slovenia scoring too early, because it would wake up England and they destroy us then.
Now for us Slovenians it means soooo much to survive first time the group stage, like you have seen how they celebrated this draw. And this on our national holiday (25th June is Independence Day for us). Greetings from Slovenia and good luck for England in the knockout-stage 😊

I am from a country that is not even in this euro competition.
Slovenia are 57th on the FIFA rankings, and have never qualified for the knockouts in a major tournament in their entire history. They qualified by finishing third (something that in previous tournaments would have seen them have to play another knockout game to go through) by a 0-0 draw. It's hardly going out on much of a limb to say they're not a great team. Congrats to their fans, I'm happy for them and it must be a great feeling to reach the knockouts for the first time. That said, you're right that England are shit.

@@Azog150 I think Slovenia did very well to recover from a 1-0 loss to Denmark and score an equaliser. Yes they've drawn all their games, but Denmark are still a good team. Slovenia's strategy is clearly to prioritise defense and their strategy worked. England at least tried to score in their last game but when there are 7-8 people defending the penalty box, it's pretty hard.

Your older players played excellent football and Livaković was perfect goalkeeper yesterday but I think your younger players are not confident enough. Your players also backed off in front of Dominik's goal what also our players did a couple of times today. You did some mistakes as did we today but in the end you were robbed of win against Italy. Never in my life have I seen a 8 minutes added to the game. Thankfully I heard Dalić made a compaint aginst the referees and I hope you get your place in knock out stage. Not bang on at all. You gambled on paying your money and using your holiday on a trip. Like test cricket, tournament football is a grind. Spain won a World Cup with one defeat and 6 one goal margin victories of which two were in extra time. England have done all they need to do. They might win, they probably won’t, but fans need to manage emotions and expectations way better - it’s getting embarrassing. Look at French, Dutch, Germans, Italians, Belgians - no panic in their media, they know how it works - the English are way too invested.

I spend £1000s watching England between 1998 and 2006. Only enjoyed 2 away days in that time. 1-5 v Germany and 0-2 Scotland. Got fed up being ripped off on hotel costs whilst watching rubbish and false dawns. I did enjoy the travel and meeting foreign football fans plus different grounds.
FairPlay to the guys that keep going. It got to the point I didn’t feel the disappointment of the defeat like I did with my club. After 5 minutes you just feel why did I bother.
