  • Piriformis Syndrome and Sciatica is an intensely experienced pain that has its origins in the compensatory positions that our legs are placed into because of the Left AIC and Right BC patterns. In general, stretching and strengthening of the piriformis and glute medius will not help unless the underlying pattern is addressed.
The piriformis muscle acts as an abductor and external rotator of the leg, depending on the position of the hip. For the purposes of this video, it should be viewed through the lens of external rotation of the left leg in response to the rightward oriented pelvis above it.
In reality however, this individuals biggest challenge is not using her neck to breathe. Her inability to not overuse her right neck muscles for breathing, in particular the right scalenes, right SCM, and right upper trap is what leads to her bodyweight being placed over the right leg, and thus the weakening of the left hip and leg. Until she can get on her weight on her left leg with appropriate muscular support from the left hamstring, left adductor, left anterior glute medius and left abdominals, her left piriformis has no reason to relax because it's being relied upon for compensatory left leg external rotation.
