🤠Howdy Tex, We really like the mattresses on our newer Travato 2022 KL with Winnebego's new "sleep system" with the curved maple slats and improved mattress. We took the covers off and put typical mattress pads and sheets on them. I am a back and both sides sleeper. Unfortunately for my wife, I snore more on my back. I had to learn the "turn and scoot" method to stay in the center of the bed. The down side is my beds are 2" narrower than yours being only 28" wide. I would love to have the 30" wide ones. Interested to see how this saga turns out. Your Buddy, Mark 🤠

Thanks for your insights Mark. I did look at Winnebago with the thought of replacing like for like or maybe even upgrading to the sleep system like yours. They wanted 1100 dollars. The phone mattress I just bought was less than 150 dollars.

@@RV2Cycle This is fun to discuss. Some years ago I read an inteview with Jodie Foster. Jodie explained that she bought and used the finest bedsheets she could find because they gave her so much joy and comfort. I also reasoned that we spend a third of our life sleeping. Since then we have spent more money on high quality Eqyptian cotton sheets with least 400 thread count and real down blankets. We love them and they are probably cheaper in the long run because they last so long. ( we have them in the van too ) I could probably justify whatever cost was necessary for me to have a good sleep in the van as it will be amortized over many many hours. If you think about it., you will spend a lot more time on that bed than you will driving the van. I encourage you to find the best solution possible even if it costs a little more. You and Kelly are certainly worth it. Oh and in the interest of marrital bliss, I suggest you also upgrade Kellys bed to what ever you end up doing. 🤠

@markwilliams5676 I like the idea of upgrading Kelly's bed too!

The best way to be comfortable in a Travato 59K with the older twin beds is to make up the whole bed. I get a good sleep that was but no on the singles. The center pads are more firm that the sides. We have a 2 inch foam topper on both sides and the center fillers are just fine the way they came. I really should look inside the center fillers to see if they are mage differently. I am thinking the beds might be better without the stock covers, any thoughts on that?

Interesting. We never tried using the center pads because we saw them as an impediment to bathroom visits in the middle of the night AND it meant assembly/disassembly every night/day to ensure access to the bath. But, what works for one doesn't always work for another.
Regarding the stock covers, the feel of the fabric is reported to bother some people but with a mattress pad plus the sheets it's a non-issue for us. The stock covers DO contain some padding, similar to the padding that lies immediately beneath the fabric of a traditional mattress.
My next project will result in a mattress equivalent to the stock mattress for the passenger side 'twin'. It will be one inch taller and depending on experience a topper is an option we'll continue to consider.

@@RV2Cycle When you make up the big bed, which takes about a minute to do, there is a cut out at the bathroom door so you can shimmy out and put your feet down then step into the bath. Sleeping in the King bed your head goes towards the cab. During the evening of watching TV we lay side to side. We put a reflectix insert in the widow so as not to damage the blinds with the pillows against that wall like a headboard. Sleeping sideways would be a problem for the person towards the cab at night. In the morning when I am making breakfast and Katie is watching TV still in bed then it is harder to get to the bathroom with the sideways position. Our twins have a 2" foam pad and then a twin fitted sheet which is held tight with elastic sheet clips. The center pads are used as is. We lay two layers of king sheets and then a down comforter. Also I put a smaller decorator pillow under the sink counter to prefect Katie from lifting her head and hitting that bit that sticks out. I thought the twin would be ideal, and it is for convenience, but it just is not comfortable. However if we are staying somewhere that may or may not be safe we do go with the twin beds and stay fully clothed!

@@toycarcollector I always feared hitting my head on the TV if I had my head toward the cab. Solved that problem when we removed the TV.

Just wondering why didn’t you order a Travato replacement mattress from Winnebago?

Thanks for asking. It was a cost driven decision, they quoted $1116.xx. I can buy a custom mattress much cheaper. Since we keep the twin beds 'made' as beds (even if being used as a couch) there's no worry about a lack of matching mattress/couch upholstery.
