You are using it wrong. The RCA outs sound worse than using AV connector. Sony put some really cheap opam buffers in that output becuase they knew people would try to use cheap cables a buffer can solve that problem but the opamp and component used in that circuit are very bad for audio. Buy a sony cable in that output the buffer is bypassed.

Well it's not common like other PS1 models.
