I was a campaign organizer for Obama in 2012 and Hillary in 2016. It's not about "which way" the campaign should go, it's about how all-consuming the campaign should be.
From 2012 to 2016 I noticed a huge drop-off in the intensity, in the outreach, in the persuasion aspect of the campaigns. Since 2016, it's become much more surgical, timid, unsure of itself.
Our next candidate, whoever ends up leading our party in 2028, the campaign itself needs to be everywhere, everything, all at once. A political campaign needs to be a cultural moment that touches everywhere. The other side needs to be tired of seeing our person's face, hearing our person's voice.
    That's what's missing.

no, it's not. they ran an incompetent person with a terrible platform that no one wanted, especially Dems. Dems rejected her quickly in 2019. Dem elites tried to get her off 2024 when Biden announced he was running again but got boxed in with identity politics. She didn't have a primary in 2020 or 2024. On top of that - SHE KNEW HE HAD DEMENTIA and lied to the American people for 5 years to advance her own career in 2020 and protect it in 2024. Collusion+Coup= Treason.

I'm curious about your opinion of this: for the 2020 election, Ezra Klein wrote a piece for the New York times that basically said that Republicans no longer have to appeal to the center of the American electorate. But Democrats can't survive unless they appeal to the center.
Since you've had experience on a campaign, do you think the surgical approach makes it harder or maybe even impossible to appeal to the center of the American electorate?
I also can't help feeling that the extremism in our electoral system, which a lot of experts blame on the way we run primaries, has so alienated people who aren't animated by politics that they just stopped voting.
Don't get me wrong, my basic experience of Americans is that they simply don't have any faith in our political system. They feel like our government is pretty much run by billionaires. I don't know that I disagree with them. But I am curious what you think about Klein's opinion on Republicans being able to abandon the center, and Democrats being beholden to the center.

    • @RyanAllThingsPossible909
      @RyanAllThingsPossible909 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

@lucindabreeding I do believe Republicans no longer have to appeal to the middle ground because they have successfully, through Trump, rebranded themselves as a cultural movement that cuts across demographics.
One big difference from 2012 to 2016. In 2012 when we would make persuasion calls to undecided/ lean-right voters, if they weren't voting for Obama they would say, "I'm a Republican so I'm voting for Romney" or they would say simply, "I'm voting Republican." In 2016, the few persuasion calls we did make, every single one of them said, "I'm voting for Trump", "I'm with Trump." There was a personal connection that - hearing the difference - really shook me and I think in some ways made election night 2016 not as shocking for me. And 2024, not shocked at all.
I think we're in a new Era of politics where politics is now part of the culture, its not a once every four year or two year thing for voters. I don't think anymore any demographic - racial, economic or even political leaning - can be written off or assumed to be on board.

@@lucindabreeding The reason for it is who each party is targeting.
In the last four US presidential elections, the GOP has progressively targeted the "non-voters", the nearly 40% of the population which *could vote*, but do not... the reason the "likely voters" based polls failed every year.
The last time the DNC did that was in 2012... when it helped President Obama win again. In 2016, those new voters overwhelmingly supported Sanders over Senator Clinton... it was center and center right voters which were old GOP that supported the continuation of the old ways. And so, as part of vilifying the "Bernie Bros", they abandoned their new voter focus.
Ex GOP and right leaning independent "likely voters" make up only 25% of the possible votes... but their strategy makes every vote there the focus. I am seeing 3-5% of Donald's turnout being new voters again this year... but his totals were within a million of his last year, meaning he lost 2-4% of his previous voter base. But he can do that. At the same time, Harris lost 10 million votes, nearly 10% of her total... and she did not make up that loss as easily by reaching out to the center.

We need to make sure that every person running is able to deliver the messaging that resonates with their constituents, so we can get people to the polls. If we can get the independents, great, and if we can speak to the needs of the people that believe themselves republican because they always have been, great. But we need to get the message OUT for all the victories we can point out and show the people HOW we fight in their interests regardless of what side of the aisle they are on. Like the CHIPS act and IRA. Point out how their own republican representatives voted AGAINST them, screwing their own people if the votes weren't there on our side.

Democrats, on the other hand, campaign on promises they believe appeal to “average folk” (their supposed constituents) then pursue policies that favor their major donors, economic and cultural elites, and industry once they are in office. That worked for a long time but I think “average folk” have struggled economically for so long that we all now see the distance between what Democrats promise to do if elected and what they actually do when elected.
If Democrats want to regain the support of the people, they need candidates who actually represent us, who will govern on our behalf, and will actually fight for us even against the interests of the elites and those who serve them. There cannot be any distance between the promises they make and the results they deliver.

Whereas Trump did not, he had to be reminded of the question and also, did not answer questions directly either. I did vote for her, however out of all the people, the one who is the oldest and had so much problem delivering answers was in fact the only person able to answer anything.

I'm a genuinely conservative person and a lifelong Republican .... but I really, really, REALLY dislike Donald Trump, the MAGA movement, and what it's done to the Republican Party (and our country). In this last election cycle, I supported two Democratic Party challengers for seats in the US House and offered my services as a marketing and branding expert to our state's Democratic Party Chair (who is a friend) at no charge to help provide an "alternative point of view" on messaging and positioning in order to try and attract more centrist voters. And while the party chair and candidates were all very nice and (I think) interested, their comms people were not. No returned calls. No requests for an informal get-together over Zoom or a cup of coffee. No interest, really, in considering the issues or informational needs of anyone outside of the traditional base of Democratic voters.
I watched the debates and subsequent panel discussions like the one shown here and just shake my head. There were so many missed opportunities to draw clear distinctions and positiong Harris and the Democrats as agents of positive change that were left on the table, it's a shame. Harris, for example, didn't need to point out the things she would have done differently from Joe Biden these past four years but instead explained what she learned during the past four years that would inform her decisions on situations resulting from those decisions. It's like her campaign didn't want her to spend time looking back on what could have been but they also didn't help her develop a clear vision of what could be in the future - and the result was a series of platitudes and pablum in response to obvious questions that offered neither substance or insight. Kamala Harris had four years of on-the-job training for the most important job in the world and she couldn't come up with an answer to the question: "What will you do differently?"
    Really?
This lack of creativity and vision in the leadership of one of our two major political parties is alarming. And when the other party has seemingly abandoned any shred of decency while currying the favor of an egomaniac, it seems to me there are a lot of voters out there with nowhere left to turn. We are entering dark days, indeed.
The next twenty-four months promise to be very interesting to watch (and harrowing to live through).

I think we need to take a step back and let people make some moves, get their ideas out there and see what’s working. Why were they stuck on the border? They cannot believe they were going to get voters who were focused on the border, when Donald spent the last 15 years being against the free border... she loved saying "I grew up in a middle class (uppper middle class) home"... she could have absolutely smashed it by focusing on the economy.
But more annoying is the "she was part of the administration, and did not want to look back at anything she would do different in hindsight"... that is scary in itself. You mean that there is nothing you did that had a negative effect on the nation that you could look back on and say "we did wrong there"? No lessons learned, in a time where we had 30% inflation over 4 years, 2 major conflicts break out, major GOP gains in several states... nothing that they did they look back on and say "we could have done better"?
But watching the interview I can see the problem. Even after the entire nation had a plus five republican change... And states like california and new york had a plus ten change... They don't see that they did anything wrong. With the benefit of hindsight they still don't see that they did anything wrong.
    What else can we say.

It was bad. They are completely unaware of the situation they’re in - ergo that we’re all in. They don’t - rather they won’t - budge from checking the same to do boxes they’ve always checked. They think it was 2012.
They don’t acknowledge the issues - particularly around economics.
They don’t understand the media in this day and age.
For God’s sake. Who was behind the disastrous decision to put Obama out there? At all? Let alone … in Pennsylvania - of ALL places?? He was condescending. He kept effectively telling rallies goers to shut up. “Don’t Boo!!!” The crowd got quiet… “Vote”. Awkward… And to be clear, I knocked on doors, handed out flyers, made phone calls and texts, called volunteers to work polls - for Obama. This was shockingly bad. The only people who like Obama are people like them. And Pod Save America. I was furious they did that. It’s like people’s like these - and I’m sorry - but it felt like they were pleasuring themselves. Talking about this and that about Obama, and what Obama said about the speeches. It’s 2024.
Obama would have lost to Trump.
Tim Walz got it. If Tim had more confidence, he could have won.
You know who got it? Michelle. The talk with those students about specifics how the system was rigged … she could sway a MAGA. But even she wasn’t giving them enough concrete convictions about what will change in the rigged system. And yes it’s true Trump didn’t either. You know what he does? He says the same lies enough- for YEARS - some people believe. It doesn’t matter that it doesn’t make sense. What is the ONLY defense you’ve got in 2-3 months? Specific policies that matter, and Kamala did not have that. $6k for a kid? $25k for a house? 3 million new homes “for buying or …. For rent”. Oh good. Big investors will have more inventory …. Because the people who voted for Trump can’t put $400 bucks together, dammit! $40-50k for a new small business but not an existing one trying to compete against the oligarchs? Seriously? That’s spit in the ocean when the currents aren’t going your way.
That guy from - where was it - Connecticut or New Hampshire or Vermont. Know what th4 problem is? The Democrats are bought off. And what they don’t like is that voters know it. It took me longer than most, but I see it.
Frankly, I see now the progressives were right all along. It’s Bernie. (It is NOT AOC). Or someone like Bernie. I don’t even think it’s Pete Buttigieg, who I adore. He’s a Republican - in the traditional sense. It’s definitely not that guy from PA - he’s clearly an old style republican. It’s not even Gavin newsome.
Look outside of politicians. Volodomir Zelenskyy was a comedian and he is among the best leaders on this planet. He relies on a team of experts, If these arrogant jerks they could hide Joe Bidens profound dementia and didn’t learn that the presidents job is not about leading the country - it’s about leading the people and managing the media. - giving healthcare to everyone, since companies dont do that reliably anymore. That’s a basic safety thing for everyone.
    - women in the 20s can freeze their eggs if they want - paid for.
    - getting housing inventory out of corporations - period - and getting back on the market at affordable rates people can BUY.
    - Take the assets like that asinine rocket fhat Bezos built off the wage theft of warehouse and delivery workers. Take the cruise ship sized yachts. Track the US money down in the cypress banks or where ever they are and invest it in schools. Because our schools suck of people are getting through high school with a 6 grade intelligence. Pay teachers better, so the better educated people can become teachers. Fire the crappy ones,
    - all judges have to prove they have no conflicts of interest. If they have been caught arguing in favor on any cases they have a conflict of interest, they go to jail themselves. And the case is reheard.
    - no lobbyists
    - universal child care.
    - universal elder care.
    - no. No men in women’s sports. Sorry. Moving on.
    - no. No men in women’s bathrooms. Sorry. If they transitioned, they can use the women’s bathroom. Not beforehand. Moving on.
    - people like the Sakler family that pushed opioids get the death penalty for murder. And the ones who put asbestos in baby powder that killed my mom and millions of women.
    - there has been a MOUNTAIN of R&D discovery around cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart diesease. Using AI / ML, personalized, functional medicine and support for doctors for every human being. This should be done by now, it’s so obvious.
    - get pesticides, fungicides, herbicides out of our damn food - without paying 3 times as much for “ organic”. It’s insane. Mexico outlawed glyphosate - but we haven’t? Seriously? Who’s going to pay for the neurodegenerative diseases? The roundup manufacturers? Answer - yes. And the politicians. Time for some accountability.
    - figure out why colleges cost so much. We all know they don’t have to. Fix it.
    I could keep going.
Above all - get corporate money out of politics.
I’m not sure the Democrats can get there. But certainly these can’t. That’s why they’ll lose. Their time is over. Thank you for your wonderful service - truly. It’s time to move on.

      "Kamala ran a perfect campaign"
I'm sorry, running to the right on immigration, campaigning with LIZ FUCKING CHENEY, refusing to separate herself from one of the most unpopular administrations in US History, ESPECIALLY on the g-cide in Gaza, therefore alienating the base AND losing the popular vote is "running a perfect campaign"?
This is exactly why we lost this election.

It wasn't the campaign's fault. I maintain that Jesus would have been considered too black and too woke.
