Hi Sarah! Gladys Maria Knight is an American singer, songwriter, actress and businesswoman and seven-time Grammy Award-winner. She has recorded two number-one singles "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "That´s What Friends Are For" which she did with Dionne Warwick, Elton John and Stevie Wonder. She also recorded the theme song for the 1989 James Bond film Licence to Kill.
Gladys Knight & the Pips were a great R&B/soul/funk family music group that started out in the 50's & had hits over 4 decades. They had a lot of great songs such as "Every Beat Of My Heart", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Nitty Gritty", "Neither One Of Us", "Friendship Train", "If I Were Your Woman", "I Don't Want To Do Wrong", "I've Got To Use My Imagination", "I Feel A Song (In My Heart)", "On & On", "Love Overboard" etc.
Having seen Gladys and the Pips numerous times, I feel very lucky. Gladys by herself is phenomenal. But as you can the Pips just take it to another level. Great reaction Sarah!
The worst business desicion of the year award goes to Motown President/owner Berry Gordy...For Letting Gladys & the Pips go to CBS/Buddah records instead of re-signing them. (He didn't think they had any more hits in them--Boy was he big-time wrong) Not only did they have a better career with Buddah, they also were invited to perform on the Midnight Special 3 more times.
That was fun, Sarah! I think that as great as Gladys and The Pips were they are almost criminally underrated! Great voices, great performers, just wonderful!! Thank you,
Thank you for listening to this one. Gladis Knight and The Pips are perfection !! Always loved her and I love the Pips too !! Back in the 70s and 80s we listened to the regular radio and they played their songs all the time. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
There are several “Georgia” songs you should also check out: Georgia on My Mind, several artists recorded it, including Willie Nelson, but Ray Charles really made it shine. Then there’s Sweet Georgia Brown, which is a fun upbeat jazzy song & was used as a theme song for the Harlem Globetrotters, a basketball team that was mostly just performers. Idk if they ever played the game professionally. The most popular version was by Brother Bones & his Shadows although Bing Crosby recorded it, too. And let’s not forget Rainy Night in Georgia which was sung by Brook Benton. So moody & atmospheric!
Midnight Plane to Houston. Original song. Six-Million Dollar Man. Farrah Fawcett. Jim Weatherly, former Qb at Ole Miss. Google it. Interesting connection among all aforementioned.
A very personal favorite of mine because it was a sentimental favorite of my love lost aunt of hers. Rip auntie. They were married over forty years with 9 kids. She passed away with the cancer. Her guidance made me the man iam today
Gladys was the first singer I remember that literally stopped me in my tracks... I was walking through the room where the family TV was and mom/dad were watching a variety show (prob about 1969 or so)... Gladys was singing... I looked down at the TV and stopped moving... I was mesmerized... she was... and still is heart stopping beautiful, and she sings with an angels voice... to this day, she can stop me in my tracks....
I'm 63 now and I've been in love with her since I was an 11 year-old boy, the son of a U.S. Army officer stationed in Butzbach, Deutschland. She's so beautiful, with the voice of an angel.
You're enthusiasm is infectious. Great video, God bless!
