I have around 8 of these in a line, around 18 -19ft tall, I need to take 6ft off the tops. Would you recommend using a chainsaw? Or will it snag on the branches and be dangerous? They haven't been trimmed or anything for around 6 years, I used to do them but things happened and I just left them. What would you used to take the 6ft off?
Firstly. Safety at all times. And this job sounds quite risky. I only used my chainsaw when i had lopped off the branches with loppers. All my projects are trial and error and i do take risks but would prefer you didn't. I think I'd set up a stable platform, use loppers to remove the branches then when it's safe take the branches off with very large loppers or a chainsaw. Please take care. (also avoid nesting season). Best wishes. Mark
@Mark's Garden UK well since you said that I will do as you advise. I will use loppers and trimmers to get the majority of branches away and only use the chainsaw for the trunk. I was paranoid I would get one of them branches that are not thick but get caught up in trimmers and maybe chainsaws and it would just drag my arm off. (Sorry not best at describing things, but hope you know what I mean). I've had things branches snag on the trimmers and drag me off the ladders before. So I thought if I use a chainsaw it might snag and drag me into the saw and loose a limb lol. Sorry im a car mechanic so not great with gardening. I just have a certain fear for chainsaws so i thought I would ask. But you have made my decision clear. Employ a professional haha. Or take my time. Thanks mate, maybe my arm owes you one.
That was amazing to watch! I have one of similar size and want to see how far I can get in bringing it down. I have a tiny garden and it has taken over. Only problem is as a woman of 5ft 2 I would be too scared of using a chainsaw. Have read about kickback, is there an alternative that I could use. I would still like to see how far I can get though. Thank you for a great video.
@@jennyramsey7837 my advice would be to take extreme care and take your time. Go slowly and consider every cut. Then enlist help if necessary. Good luck with it but please don't hurt yourself.
This upsets me alot. That conifer was so big, beautiful and fully green and healthy. I would never remove that if i lived there. Stupid reason to remove it "it blocks the view"
Sorry you're upset. But it's my garden. And the conifer was disproportionately large and still growing. Entirely inappropriate tree where it was. If you plant one in your garden to replace it that will be a good arrangement.
Hi. I'm still working on this. It's huge, so I'm taking it in small chunks, I've been videoing it. So i have footage. I've removed most of the soil, chopped through the roots and it's almost ready to come out. Would you be interested in seeing a video on this?
@@MarksHouseandGardenUK hi Mark, I don’t envy you the work involved is incredible, that’s more of a tree stump rather than a conifer, I removed a conifer from my garden which whilst big, was nowhere near the size of the one you’re working on, it took several days to do and I had to dig underneath the stump using a long chisel to loosen the soil then removing the soil with a small garden trowel, to get any movement to rock the conifer loose, with hindsight it might of been better to buy the cheapest chainsaw and just hack the thing to pieces . Ps being enjoying your channel, watched many of your videos 👍🏻
It is coming definitely. I have decided to do it in between other jobs. I do have all the video and when i finally get the (huge!) root system out of the ground I'll share it. I’ve seen people drill holes into the tree from the bottom, fill them full of petrol/diesel and then just set up to it live the video.
An interesting approach, quite possibly no more risky than mine provided adequate precautions are taken 😂. Mark

I didn't plant it. The previous owner did. It had to go.
