Recycle your Toilet Roll Cores into Pretty Pockets!

- Welcome back to my channel, my crafting family. As well as a very warm welcome to you if you are here for the very first time! I hope you find inspiration here and decide to subscribe for even more journal ideas.
I am keen to share some more of my toilet roll core recycling ideas with you today. This time for some very easy pocket ideas and even a bellyband!
I have used the inner core for toilet rolls. You could use this or even your Kitchen towel cores and cut them to size. If you don't have either, you could use cereal boxes. It all helps to recycle cardboard and turn it into something pretty for our journals. So come and join me and follow along

When my daughters were in elementary school, teachers would post requests for various craft projects. One time it was empty toilet paper rolls. Within days, our daughter brought 36 empty cores. In addition to thanking her, the teacher asked if everyone was fine at home. Lol 🍄🍄 We owned a restaurant along a row of 8 restaurants and our daughter had asked each one to save the empty rolls for her teacher. Take care and be safe 😷

I teach children about taking care of the earth and recycling. I can not wait to do a project like this using the rolls. I know the older children will love it.

3 weeks ago, I said, in a live online crafters group, that only crafters get excited over torn up book pages and empty toilet paper rolls. Look, here you are, proving me right. Lol

I'm so excited to find others save these same sorts of things. I look at those thick junk mail pieces and say, "There must be something I can use that for besides recycling. It's such wonderful heavy paper!" My daughter rolls her eyes.
And the insides of envelopes from bills, etc! All of those pretty and interesting patterns...☺️
Or for that matter, the toilet, or facial, tissue itself! If you spritz it with water, and run it through your embossing folders, it is a rather interesting texture, and something soft to add to these pockets, like mulberry paper would be. And very inexpensive! Add a little dye in that spritzer water before, or after, to add color.

No way!!! I NEVER even thought of using the pasta machine. It would have saved me years of saving for the Cuttlebug (at the time when all that was first coming out). Lol love your ideas! Thanks for sharing!

Doesn't the pasta machine curl the paper? I use my pasta machine for polymer clay for crafts.
Scraps are a window into your soul! I love this. I am going to make some to slip in my bible. I will cover the back as well. I lost my oldest Son and I want to leave special notes for his Son to have one day when he is older. The first thing any of us do is look for hidden goodies in our Family Bibles. This would be wonderful. Thank you!

Beautiful pockets. You mentioned Scraps, when I was a child in Scotland in the 50’s Scraps were a big thing to swap and exchange with friends. They had alll different kinds but flowers were a big thing. It was like paper dolls we use to play with. Mine was Dale Evans. This was before we had TV or anything digital. Just for your info I thought I would share that.

Angela it is amazing to watch you take plain toilet roll cores and turn them into little works of art to be used in a journal :) I love it a lot :) And thank you for making a downloadable flower collection to cut out and use for our pages, pockets and envelopes, it is very much appreciated as I do not have any botanical books (yet).

Lovely project! My grandchildren want to know why I am saving the TP rolls! They tease me about saving things and before they throw something out they will say “Are you sure you don’t want to save this ? Lol!
It is great when we have everyone on board with the recycling bug. I even have my work colleagues saving items from the trash. One of my friends even posted me the Amazon packing paper. They are definitely committed to it. I love it. Thank you so much for sharing your own experience with this. We can save the world from one toilet roll core at a time, LOL. xx

Me, I just tuck them into whatever handy container, fill them with potting soil and tuck a seed, any kind into them...if they're TREE seeds, they're excellent to tuck into a jacket pocket, 3 or 4 to a side, once the tree seedlings are up to 3 or 4 braches small garden trowel in a back pocket, and go for a woodland stroll, stopping at a few bare patches and planting a new tree where it'll get plenty of sunshine and make sure to revisit the same path the next day or so, and take along another container(used/recycled of course) for water collection along the way and give your new migrants a good drink too.

This is my first time here to this channel, & what a pleasant discovery. These little pockets remind me of our old library in grade school, 80's-early 90's. Each book had a little paper pocket like these glued inside the front cover, & it held an index card that would be filled out line by line with the borrower's name&class info. The librarian kept each index card in a little box, arranged by date of check-out, & she rotated them out as each book became due to the deadline to return.
Granted, these are fancy & pretty little pockets, far from the plain cardstock pockets in those books. The things we remember sometimes! It was not that long ago, but feels like forever, with the way technology has become a thing! Thnx for the trip down memory lane! And I am very happy to find more & more people who strive to recycle like I do!💜💜

I use toilet paper rolls for many things,holding my cords for curling iron,kitchen items. Also cut up and make book marks all decorated up etc

Those pockets would be perfeckt to use for seeds, while collekting the seeds around in the late summer/atum. Maby put them in a junkjournal especilly just for gardingen. 🌸🙏🏼🌸 thank you for sharring.

This is a great idea. Keep one in pocket or purse to collect seeds.
Might even dispense seeds nicely when planting. Make a six pack for a gardening friend. Perfect.

I'm seeing cards. I get them in the mail and this would be good to use them. I also have a pasta maker from my mom. I'm excited to try these. At Christmas time I made boxes from Christmas cards. I put candy in side for little gifts.

I use mine to hold rolled up paper and anything that rolls up. Your idea is cuter than mine.

If you were to use paper towel rolls, you could use the pictures off from old calendars, or cards also. 🏝🏖🏜🏕🏞🌄 Just a suggestion...

What a beautiful printable! Your images always look so crisp and bright. I know you probably have answered this before bu5 do you use an ink jet or laser printer and which one? My printer s giving me a headache today, I’ve been trying all kinds of paper but I’m still not getting a good print. Love this project so much. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your lovely compliments!! I use a HP Envy inkjet printer. It does a great job. Use the best quality paper you can afford, is my advice. All I use, can be found on Amy Amazon Favourites list, even my printer.

How about using a paper towel roll. You could cut the roll into 2 or 3 toilet paper size rolls. Much faster this way
Yes, you can use a paper towel roll too. Our paper towel rolls are very thick and hard. Whatever you have available, would work for this. ☺️🌸🌷🦋

Oh my Angela, thank you so much for the tip on using the pasta roller. I have one and so now I am going to get it out and see how it works. I have several die cuts and was just using a rolling pin to try and cut them, not to good of luck. Thanks again, and I love all those different ways to use up my toilet rolls..and they are so very nice looking..who would have guessed.
