- Sikka was the centre of power for the king of Sikka, who ruled eastern Flores until the arrival of the Portuguese. The cathedral that was finished in 1899 is still in use.
However, Sikka is best known for its ikat, a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs resist dyeing on the yarns prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric.
