It is important to be inspired and exposed to opportunities and as you have shown it can take dedication to then follow up. Well done, super impressed with your attitude and obvious intelligence.
Hello:) So yes my first choice was indeed Edinburgh. I think firstly I really love Edinburgh as a city so didn't want to move out just yet. Secondly I really like the teaching hospital. Thirdly I like how the intercalation is compulsory. And lastly I actually like the pre-clinical to clinical approach of learning theory then putting it into practise approach. I think also generally there's a lot of opportunities in Edinburgh for doctors to specialise after their degree for example having the Royal college of physicians and surgeons at walking distance! Hope this answers your question:)
Good question!! No I didn't but literally everyone I know did it. It goes to show that DofE isn't going make or break your application anymore, it used to be a unique thing but unis r fed up of it now. I would say try and be as unique as possible for medicine applications, maybe do John Muir award instead... Hope this helps, goodluck!!
2 main reasons- 1) Course is good, I actually like the pre clinical and then clinical approach. I wanted to do an intercalated year anyway so was fine with it being compulsory. Also just overall good career prospects/networking opportunities with being in Edinburgh. 2) Staying home was quite important for me. 6 years is a long degree so needed to make sure I had a good support system around!😁
Its not really about whether you do a sport or not, its more about reflecting and linking the things you do do to medicine. The reason its good to get involved with a sport is because it covers many skills, team work, resilience etc. I'd recommend you should get involved in a sport, doesn't have to be at any high level, just a once a week club or something your school runs should be good for you to reflect on in your personal statement and interviews. If you really can't join a sport, then make sure you do some sort of other extra curricular from which you can gain those skills. Hope this helps, goodluck:)
I’m very confused about if I want to be a doctor because I think it will be very hard to get accepted into edinburgh university. The only university’s in my area that teach medicine is Edinburg so I will be screwed if I don’t get accepted. plz give me advise or should I pick another career. Plus I’m in fourth year and the only science I have took is physics. Do you think it’s possible if I could crash biology and chemistry in S5.
Ok big dilemma!😂 SO, firstly you have to apply to 4 universities therefore it doesn't matter if Edinburgh is the only med school near you. Off course we all have our first choices but don't put yourself in the mindset of only trying to get into Edinburgh cause trust me when it gets to S6 you won't care where you get in as long as you're at a medicine uni! Secondly it is definatly possible for you to crash bio and chem in S5, quite difficult but not impossible. Chemistry is the only one you most definately need but biology is obviously useful to have. My honest advice for you would be to explore a career in medicine and decide whether you have the passion, determination, and commitment for pursuing it. Its really hard to get into medicine without fully giving it your everything. I wish you the best of luck with your decision, I hope you are successful in whatever you choose:)
I would also recommend this video i made recently: th-cam.com/video/eK8C1hebu90/w-d-xo.html It will give you a bit of an insight to semester 1 of med school, might help you decide if this is what you would want to study.

Why was Edinburgh your 1st choice?

would you be at a disadvantage if you don’t do any sports?
