    Beautiful! Amazing how two dairy products can turn into sour cream. I love turning my sour cream into a dip by simply adding dried chopped onion and some garlic salt.

    I always set my cream mixture in my oven with the light on overnight - it seems to stiffen up a bit better. I haven't purchased commercial sour cream in several years. Homemade sour cream is divine and once you have it, you'll not want the store sour cream. Thank you for your great videos. I'm sewing your apron today as a gift for my sister in-law...I think she will like it when she does her canning.

    This is my favorite way to use up cream! I buy local, A2A2 cream, but it’s only sold in half gallons - which is a lot of cream to try to use in a week or two.
    By culturing it, I get several more weeks out of the cream.

    Simple has become a mantra. I help out on a farm that's becoming organic certified, and one change being contemplated is getting a milking cow. Why not? I don't touch industrial ag milk as a rule, so if this is a go next summer, I'll be happy to be in charge of that part of the operation, and use these recipes. :)

    I make crema, and this is almost exactly the same recipe I've been using for years. I'm wondering if you can use a dollop of sour cream to inoculate some cream to make a new batch. Kinda like how you can make more yogurt with some milk and a little bit of yogurt.

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  ปีที่แล้ว

      If your crema has live active cultures, I would say that that would work 👍 ~ Anja

    I always cook and bake from scratch, that’s how I was raised. I was shopping today at Publix, they were out of organic sour cream, i start thinking if I can make my own.
    I can’t find organic buttermilk, do you think I can use organic yogurt instead ?

    What's the difference between creme fraisch and sour creme both are made with the same ingredients in pretty much the same proportions?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robert, sour cream is about 10% fat and sour cream more like 30%. Since I use the cream off of our raw milk I am not certain about the fat percentage, though 😌 ~ Anja
