I worked for credit unions for 20 years. I'm here to testify: WE DO NOT WANT YOUR CAR BACK! Our expertise is in credit evaluation, not car sales. When we make a mistake we call Reponut. Worst possible way to get out of a car loan. The final sales price will be LOW. Sell it yourself and payoff the loan. Pay the loan down as quickly as possible. DO NOT BORROW FULL PURCHASE PRICE! Pay a sizable down payment.
Sadly though the big money co es from doing the exact opposite of what you are saying and it's the last thing the lenders will tell their clients. Well at least about the down 0aymentvand the accelerated payments, they wont stop you of course but they spend little time educating their customer.
Mike Butler most of my experience was in small credit unions where i was often the only full time employee. It just took too much of my time to deal with a bad loan so i made sure all borrowers were aware of the consequences before papers were signed. Unfortunately i believe that you are right that the larger lenders just want to get loans out the door. I experienced some of that later when i worked in the collection department of a larger CU and saw some of the bonehead decisions made by the loan officers who never had to deal with the aftermath of a bad loan.
I did a job making a key for a guy who had his motorcycle repod. The storage company called him 4 years later to come pick it up because the bank never took it out of his name. What luck! Further into the conversation he was telling me all the bikes he had and told he each one got repod, as if it was such an easy conversation piece. I'm like dude, you have no clue how bad you wreck yourself. I have 820 credit score and I could not imagine being in that situation, where he knocks his trust back 7 years each time? I dunno, but I don't want to find out.
Matt I've watched your videos from way back before your wife was sick , god rest her beautiful soul , you are SO FULL OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE REPOSSESSION WORLD and I'm sure you'll be back on top again soon in whatever aspect of work that you want to do!! ROCK ON BROTHER 🤘
I actually bought a 17 year old car that I knew was cheap on spare parts for a low price that I could afford. Then I put about half of what I'd paid for it into the car right away to get it road-legal. Afterwards in the subsequent 6-8 months, it had several more maintenance items done to it, but all rather low-priced (done by a friend who's a mechanic, so he didn't charge me too much). That means I have had "payments" on the car, and basically I now have a car that's reliable enough so that it would have cost me about what I've put in since. Of course, with an old car, there'll always be maintenance, but it isn't every month, but more like every couple of months, or sometimes there's nothing for half a year or even longer, so that way, it's car payments I can save up on or even chose when to do the repairs (as long as they're not safety-related, which they aren't - and the safety of a vehicle must be checked every 2 years anyways in order to legally stay on the road), so that way, I never had to get into debt in the first place, to have a cheap and fairly reliable daily driver. Nothing fancy or fast, not even pretty, but it works.
I hate that people only end up watching short videos, personally I like the longer videos anything from 15 mins to an hr or longer and I still watch all of it.

Good to hear this. Why won't the repo person take the time to call the finance company?? Literally had this happen after a payment was postponed one day while waiting on UI check to come in & 5 minutes before the man was in the yard the memo popped up the finance company had just received the payment. This man would not even call his boss, instead claimed he called the cops & I was going to be arrested and charged & when I called the police department they said it wasn't true & they weren't on the way. I finally got my finance company on the phone after a 15 minute hold & saw an opening to leave, & left while on the phone with them. I don't know what is going to happen now, but the finance company said the repo was automatically generated and my payment was made. I dont know if he's going to try to show back up or what but I'm not giving him my car, period. I made arrangements and had made the payment.
It’s not the job of repo man to verify you paid, you need to call finance company to straighten it out, better yet, don’t get multiple payments behind that will trigger a repo.
To answer your question, we don't know how or what to do when losing a job or in our case covid shut us down. This is the kind of education needed in schools. If I was taught this I wouldn't have gone through this painful process as the repoman took my car while my wife was loading the groceries. You also mentioned the finance company is not in the business of selling cars.... well people aren't in the business to miss payments due to job loss, etc.. There's a ton of sympathy on the side of the finance company not much on the human side. When people are in a panic situation with no guidance we make decisions to ease the pain of not knowing what to do. The finance company have tons of support on their side whereas the person losing their job is all alone and calling the finance company asking for solutions is like asking a horse to bark. Also, most people do not know how to sell a car, either especially when you are selling your car at a loss and will be left without transportation. There's just so much panic on the end of the human. I keep saying human because that's who you are speaking of when you are repossessing the car. Now, I can understand why you would put the responsibility on the borrower. It IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY! BUT, there's also a bit of a payoff for you seeing that you have to look in people's faces as they fall apart while you're taking their last life line. No ones clean in this game. Thanks for putting this out there btw.
That's how I've went about every big ticket purchase I ever made. I will literally wait years to buy something I really want such as a cool car or a nice house. The word finance is an alien concept to me.

The bad thing about having a c ar reposed, which you never plan, is if you own more than the car will be sold for by the finance company you are still liable for the remainder unless you bankrupt.

I learned years ago that there is no value in a new car. I shop around, find a vehicle that’s been well taken care of and pay cash for it. Even if i have to put money into it to fix something, I’m still way ahead of paying off a new car. Case in point is my current purchase of an 06 Ford Explorer Eddie Bower edition. It looks brand new and all I had to do was put spark plugs and coil packs in it. $6K total and it’s all mine.
I’ve been raised to work hard for what you believe in. Life will have its ups and downs. Getting yourself back up and keep fighting the good fight is what matters.
Hey Matt. Great to see you back. Found you by accident and glad I did. I have always enjoyed your video's as it gave this from a 68 year old Man with Terminal Cancer something interesting to watch instead of boring TV. Take Care,Stay Safe and "On to the next thing".
Solid advice Matt, two key points. Always go in with a sizable down payment or pay off the loan quicker then intended. Upside down (owing more on the loan then the vehicle is worth) is a serious disaster waiting to happen. Secondly "turning the key back in" doesn't mean life is all of a sudden good. The finance company will normally auction it off at a dealer only auction where it will sell far below market value. And if it doesn't pay off the loan YOU ARE ON THE HOOK FOR THE BALANCE ...... sell it yourself like Matt says way better outcome guaranteed.
The issue I have and that I'm running into now. When I "bought" my truck from a buy here pay here set up they was asking almost 3x the vehicles value. With my credit screwed up like it was then they was the only option I had and I didn't have money to go buy one outright nor did I have the option to go somewhere else or means to repair the vehicle I had (needed a transmission) I do still have the vehicle and am making the payments still but I owe so much on it there is NO way I could ever sell it for any where near the pay off. And the payments are the same as a brand new gmc 2500 with perfect credit. If shit went south they will just have to eat the cost
I’m glad to see you back Matt. One thing about depreciation that I’ve learned considers cars that you buy new or even used. But pretty much any vehicle you get it going to have a deficiency as soon as you drive it off the lot unless you make a substantial down payment. It doesn’t matter what you get, whether it’s a truck, minivan or a car they’re all going to depreciate fast.
Someone i know brought a used 37 foot long limo. Looks to be the same length. That third axle, is most likely just to handle the weight of the hot tub, meaning it may not be a 6x6 wheel drive hummer. It may still be a 4x4.
There are other repo channels on Utube but this channel is the most entertaining. One of the few channels I 👍 before I even watch.( I know it's always good content) a guy doing repos by himself....thats balls of steel!! the other channels have 3 /4 people doing a repo.. not as entertaining ...✌🏻
When I see one of your videos I save it till I need to elevate my leg for my Lymphodema treatments. New vid, then old vid, one hour of therapy actually enjoyed. By the way, thanks for showing us the perfect Hummer.
good day Matt , nice to see you back buddy . repos done different up here in Canada , if there is a repo they call in law enforcement a lot of times, i saw one , you'd think they had the whole swat team there lol .
I remember this video, and I also recall another one where you detailed some strategies for working with the bank to keep the car from being repoed rather than trying to duck the bank and the repoman. It's too bad that your average viewing times are so short as they are generally worth watching all the way through.
I've nevr had a car payment or mortgage yet so pardon if this sound dumb. Are you saying that debtors, once they realise the end is nigh, are better off selling the call and paying the debt so they can have some equity rather than just forfeiting the asset?
Hey I watched all your videos pretty much to the end clear up until you went off line I have been waiting so long for you to put more videos back up glad to see you're back hopefully eventually you can show some more of you finding your mark
I've had two repos in the past. First repo, I bought a 2013 ford focus. A week later I was fired. I drove it for as long as possible. (about a year before the tag expired) Hiding it wasn't all that hard but I was eventually found. I was followed from work. I'm not sure how the found me to be honest. I'm not sure if someone told them where I was working.(This was a cash job, no i9) Though I remembered being tailed by a white truck. That same white truck, the dude knocked on my door and was like "oh, wrong house!" and left but right before he left I noticed him go to the front left of my car. I'm sure he was verifying the VIN. They damaged my Wood gate and broke onto my property to get it. That did get replaced by them. I had to fight but it was taken care of. (Breach of peace)
@RepoNut hey man glad to hear from you again. Keep them coming. How are things going? Can't wait to see more of the new and improved Matt. God Bless young man.
I was in a bit of a rough time when I found your TH-cam channel back in like 2013 ish I think and to be quite honest I think I have nearly watched every video you put out all the way through !! I am really glad that you have stepped out and continued on in this field ! Can't wait for the next video, see you soon
He is barred from repossessions after his left aggravated theft felony charges. He now runs skip tracing (locate information). He lost the truck a long time ago (you can research how). Hoping for the best for Matt but he has a long fight back to ever be an agent again. The courts tried hard to get him to pick a different line of work but he's stubborn (like me).
What the advice did you give? How about do your research. 1. Pick a car with lower depreciation. 2. Check the value of the car (versus the price) and look for the lowest LTV (loan to value) ratio. 3. Put a big enough down on the car to lower your LTV and payment without sacrificing an "emergency fund" of at least 1 payment in case you lose your job, etc. 4. Choosing a shorter term on the loan will lessen the time you are underwater. 5. Remember repair bills in your annual budget for the car. 6. Get GAP insurance! if you are buying a car you will be underwater on. This pays the difference of an insurance payout on the value of the car versus what you still owe. You NEVER gain equity in a car to use like a savings account Matt. That's just silly. The last thing you want to do when you need liquid cash is sell your car. There are way too many finance charges front loaded, license, tax that you won't recover when selling it. Much better to squirrel away savings. Have your paycheck split 95% and send 5% to another account that you don't touch. Lots of good info if people just read one article on this loan mistakes at us news dot com.
After watching your videos for years and having hard times of my own I have stopped using any car loan that holds a title as collateral. My last 3 cars have been paid with credit cards. In the last 5+ years I've paid no interest💰💰
Can a repo company legally come and repossessed my vehicle after forgetting to ask for payment? I will eventually pay it, but I did just pay a large sum and if I could use this time to wait, I would love to.
He has talked about it, he was out of the truck long before his legal troubles. Currently he is barred from actual repo work (recovering assets) but is allowed to work in locating assets and this is actually what he is doing. I only answered for him because I think he is a little exhausted about speaking about the past wanting to look forward and I can respect that. Cheers Marytn
@@goleafsgo8496 Not only all that, but he said he has no desire to go back to actually doing the repos again. It's easier on him, less risky, etc just to do skip tracing and such, and he's making just as good of money.
@@hughjaskoch5456 and he is incredibly skilled in that portion (locations) of asset recovery. Good point on it being easier on him, Matt and I are close in age and I couldn't imagine the physical requirements of "snatching" at this point in my life.
I pay cash for my vehicles and usually drive them until I don't trust them to get me from point a to b. I never look at my car as an investment. It's a necessity (unfortunately). I drive a 15 year old vehicle that I bought new. It still gets good gas mileage and blows cool air in the summer and hot air in the winter.
Matt i feel like channels that focus on certain analytics that their content quality goes down, and the day you post whatever views you get that day is not a way to judge the overall success of the video. I'll post a video that will get 20 views and then in 6 months itll have a few thousand.
I have a ? For the repo community. I bought a pilot new from the Honda dealership in 05/21, paid cash that day. Have been back every few months for my service as paid for in a package when I got it new. I see the same faces for 6 visits now, and I’ve built a report with a few people there even. So how is it possible some guy tries to repo it from my driveway just tonight, about an hr ago. I’m heated then a mother off of this, they had my stuff hooked up and all. I go out politely and such, dude checks the vin and it matches his repo Oder, the plate even matched his order But the name on it was not mine. I went inside and got the title and showed him the paperwork. I even had the window sticker, receipts from accessory department, ect. He says oh well you better call this bank cuz that’s who put a repo order out. Why would I have to deal with any bank. I paid Love Honda for it new with 13 miles on it.
Matt, i have some questions but am not sure you would be receptive. They do not technically concern repoing but more on the end result....this might not be proper for Facebook. LTC Chandler M.
1. Felons can't be in possession of firearms 2. Almost every state has laws against licensed repossession agents carrying during repossession activities.
@@flynnwhite8106 I didn't realize he was a felon prior to his imprisonment in 2018. And thank you. I didn't realize repo agents couldn't carry. Thank you for your answers
You are correct Got do the right thing but in my eyes the right thing is take care of my family and I will do whatever I need to, to take care of my family and if that means play a little bit of cat and mouse until I get the money to keep the bank happy t that's what I'm gonna do because without a vehicle there is no job w8th this day and age right now you best have some kind of income. Cannot take care of your family if you don't Have transportation
How does one sell a vehicle which one does not hold title and still has a loan on? I ask because I've only ever traded my vehicles in on another vehicle. Personally I would have a hard time making a purchase from a private party which did not provide the title at time of sale.

And the payments are the same as a brand new gmc 2500 with perfect credit. If shit went south they will just have to eat the cost
Good to see you!! You look great.
Glad to see you back! Stay strong brother.
Quite surprised how the average watch time was less than 10 minutes. I'm a watcher from start to finish! Keep them coming
I watched every minute bro you help me thru a dark time and I THANK YOU
If you must finance a cheap car just to have a car put it on a credit card instead of taking out a loan, that way there is no lien on it!
You will always be the main repo man baby!
Learned from my folks PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET, 40 YEARS AND OWN EVERYTHING I HAVE.
When I see one of your videos I save it till I need to elevate my leg for my Lymphodema treatments. New vid, then old vid, one hour of therapy actually enjoyed. By the way, thanks for showing us the perfect Hummer.
5-8 minutes on average? I love watching all of videos. Something calming about them. Glad you’re back, Matt. Peace and love.
Are you going to get another. Truck?
Where have you been?? I use to watch you all the time. I watched when your wife was fighting cancer. 😢 I hope everything is going well 🙏🏼 ❤️
Hey bud ty for sharing keep up the good work
I watch your Videos longer then 8 minutes lol great Content Matt.
I watch the whole video's
good day Matt , nice to see you back buddy . repos done different up here in Canada , if there is a repo they call in law enforcement a lot of times, i saw one , you'd think they had the whole swat team there lol .
I remember this video, and I also recall another one where you detailed some strategies for working with the bank to keep the car from being repoed rather than trying to duck the bank and the repoman. It's too bad that your average viewing times are so short as they are generally worth watching all the way through.
I've got about 30 channels that post content daily so I like the shorter format so I can try to watch them all daily.
I've nevr had a car payment or mortgage yet so pardon if this sound dumb.
Are you saying that debtors, once they realise the end is nigh, are better off selling the call and paying the debt so they can have some equity rather than just forfeiting the asset?
Wow that Limousine was nuts!!! Great advice! 👍🏻
Hey I watched all your videos pretty much to the end clear up until you went off line I have been waiting so long for you to put more videos back up glad to see you're back hopefully eventually you can show some more of you finding your mark
@reponut Hey Matt I think you should Do a life story video so we can understand What you have been through I really enjoy hearing peoples life story
Pay your bills!
Once you got a job and was able to pay, you should have been sending them payments
Who watches eight minutes I always watch to the end… LOL
Going threw this right now finally caught up major break downs with owning a diesel will do this
What the advice did you give?
I always try to watch the whole video. I struggled for three years hanging on to my car and managed to not have it repoed
What's sad is the customer paid that car off when he signed the contract . So getting any money back is a slap in the face.
Hey Matt glad to see your back posting videos again love the channel you do great work man
QUESTION: How do you find the location of the vehicle?---What makes it hard to locate?
After watching your videos for years and having hard times of my own I have stopped using any car loan that holds a title as collateral. My last 3 cars have been paid with credit cards. In the last 5+ years I've paid no interest💰💰
LOOKING GOOD!!! HOPE TO SEE YOU BACK SOON!! THANKS...
My solution is ride what you got till there's not a way to go. Got a new Prius 2006 got a 2007 drove it to 2019
Can a repo company legally come and repossessed my vehicle after forgetting to ask for payment? I will eventually pay it, but I did just pay a large sum and if I could use this time to wait, I would love to.
Would be nice to see you back in a tow truck again or has the law stoped that for now I’m martyn from England great vlogs
That hummer limo is badass
How do you gets accounts for reposession?
Mind blown Matt. I never knew that was an option 🤦♀️
Your the Man Bro. Glad your back. My life is some what complete now...😉🤣😂🤣😂🙂👍👊
Matt, glad to see you back in the game. Long time sub and know you’ve been through some tough things.
All the best to you
I really really miss the repo videos
No rest for the wicked
Meaning what?
I go out politely and such, dude checks the vin and it matches his repo Oder, the plate even matched his order
But the name on it was not mine. I went inside and got the title and showed him the paperwork. I even had the window sticker, receipts from accessory department, ect. He says oh well you better call this bank cuz that’s who put a repo order out. Why would I have to deal with any bank. I paid Love Honda for it new with 13 miles on it.
Like maybe the Honda dealership had a loan on their floor set and defaulted ?? Idk
Call them.
Haven't heard from you since you loss, hope things are on the improve for you now. looking forward to your new Vids
Thanks for Sharing
This repo man knows nothing about how banking works for real
We do NOT want your vehicle back. Communication goes a long way! Stop running!
Matt, i have some questions but am not sure you would be receptive. They do not technically concern repoing but more on the end result....this might not be proper for Facebook.
LTC Chandler M.
Two questions, where can I get that exact same steering wheel cover and did you ever carry a firearm in your truck?
Hell yeah the limo driver was blasting The Wall
So happy to see you back! 😎
Glad to see you back..
Where did ya go Matt?
You're not doing repo's anymore?
this video flew by....more I need more
The finance companies shouldn’t charge so much is the problem!!!
I hate to say it but he’s better off not making videos just work every day and get your life back it takes a long time this was no good for him
How does one sell a vehicle which one does not hold title and still has a loan on?
I ask because I've only ever traded my vehicles in on another vehicle.
Personally I would have a hard time making a purchase from a private party which did not provide the title at time of sale.
Yay another video
Love your videos bro. Blessings & Love Robert.
my Loan People didn't even want my car. they wanted me
Excellent advice: Always ask permission before sticking your camera inside a giant stretch Hummer Limo with a stripper pole inside.
It's sad to see pimps forcing women into sex trafficking.
This was for the hummer at the end of video.
Good to see you brother.
