Also, because of the increase in the number of visitors, more cats are getting sick from illnesses brought in by outsiders. I saw quite a few struggling from herpes. I would recommend bringing hand sanitizer to use before and after visiting the island. Please remember that this is a residential area. Visit quietly and leave the place clean!

메주님 언젠가 기회가 되신다면 터키로도 꼭 여행가보시면 좋을거 같아요! 얼마전에 이스탄불로 여행을 다녀왔는데 정말 길고양이와 길개(? 들개는 아니었어요ㅋㅋㅋ 떠돌이개!)들의 천국이더라고요! 사람들도 정말 동물들을 사랑하는게 느껴지고, 고양이들도 개들도 사람을 되게 좋아하더라고요ㅠㅠㅠ 그리고 어떤 관광지 혹은 유적지를 가도 사람의 접근은 막을지언정 동물들의 접근을 막는곳은 어떤곳도 없었어요.... 그리고 숙소 근처에도 동네 고양이들이 엄청 많아서 떠나기 전날 고양이 습식 사료를 급하게 구매해서 마지막 인사로 나눠주고 왔었어요! ㅎㅎ
@@carrieannmcleod5219 I could see that happening, but I'm not sure if the people living there would want to turn their island into a paid attraction. Incidentally, it might be the way the locals think, i.e. their culture and mindset, that makes them prefer to let nature take its course. Since the cats form an integral part of their daily living environment, I think it's best to respect their wishes to keep their ecosystem a closed and protected one. Of course, I would love to feed one of those fuzzy critters myself... But I guess there's always a cat cafe to fulfill that itch.
that's what I was thinking...like ok...you stop feeding them and they keep reproducing bc they're not fixed. you keep feeding them and they have energy to reproduce bc they're not fixed. it would be cute if some trap neuter release companies in jpn were able to come together and spay them 😭
perhaps it's more to prevent sickness or poisoning ? ( Of course I do not mean visitors are doing that intentionally ) from my limited knowledge, the cat's looked quite healthy and not thin either, and even if they weren't salon-bathed clean, they were decently clean I'd imagine the villagers are taking quite the good care of them and since the Village's name is associated with cats, perhaps they aren't looking to reduce the numbers in fact, my neighborhood has more stray cats in comparison to that village, so perhaps they are spaying/neutering them I know this was but a quick video and it was quite a cold day by the looks of it, but the cats were quite calm and non territorial , that makes me lean towards the theory they are already neutered/spayed / controlled.

Suggestion to go to istanbul turkey. One of the attraction is the istanbul stray cats who are tame and well cared by the people. Turkishs really love cats and take care of them

Instead of prohibiting feeding the cats for population control, they should spay/neuter them which is more efficient and allow visitors to feed them.
And who would pay for the vet especially in a remote village full of the elderly like that?
