    Thank you. Coming from running VirtualBox for years, and was looking to expand my knowledge base. I am a big fan of XCP-NG, and XO. It is a lot more 'user friendly' IMO over another 'famous' virtualization platform. I will be pushing some people to the commercial version and support, here shortly. Please keep up the good work.

    They have improved the way to bring in VHD as well, might be worth part of a new video. I have had some issues with disk2vhd migrations though, but have a process in place that works.

    I've got a 11y old Supermicro server and now with ESXi 8 they don't support my CPU even if i don't mind ESXi they are now forcing me to move.. XCP-NG might be the path for me..

      It's mostly because they remove the kernel code for it to keep the code base small.

    Do you think Synology Active backup would ever support VM backups? That is why I chose ESXI so I can back it up with Synology. Do you have any recent videos on backing up VMs with XCP-NG

    any progress on XCP-NG getting a hyperconverged storage option. anything like Ceph on the roadmap? With Datacentre power and space costs going up, it makes a whole lot of sense to attach storage directly to your compute.

      Glad Im not the only one noticing it. It must be a typo I guess so 6.3 or later should be correct.

      Current limitations and next steps
      We have various improvements in the pipes. So far, the delta import is only supported up to VMware 6.5. This will be solved in our next release, to support all VMware versions in delta mode. If you use something more recent, you can just shutdown the VM, the replication will work, but not in "warm" mode (ie: delta).

      If you need more that 2TB per VM you are not following best practices for storage. VM storage and data should be separate.

      @@LAWRENCESYSTEMS This is 10000% percent true. I cannot tell you how often I've had to work clean up on people who've put their file systems in full virtual. Almost every NAS will support Microsoft AD security passthrough permission sets, you can setup your own ACLs and limit loss. Single point loss is the worst thing you can do, so why make the opportunity larger? By utilizing better practices, you can do more to protect an environment.
      I responded to another video recently, but I'm taking this week to run some test environments of both ProxMox & XCP-NG. I see things in both of them I'm not a huge fan of; but VMWare's methodology that is in place now means extensive cost increase for companies I work with. I also question VMWare's changes in the way their system works, one that is really turning into nickel and dime on every function. One of the things that I do dislike about XCP-NG is that the backup function/etc. is natively hidden behind the XO paywall ($85/mo); I'll walkthrough and compile my own XO, but certainly an annoyance.

    I can’t install XCP-NG on my 12th gen. I’d like to use it but it just lands on a black screen when starting the installer.😢

    • @ferdievanschalkwyk1669
      @ferdievanschalkwyk1669 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might need a newer Linux kernel. Proxmox does support 12th and 13th gen out of the box and you can use the opt-in kernel to fully unlock the Intel CPU's.
