I remember once as a young boy of 10 going on a vacation with my family from Arizona to Florida to visit my grandparents. When traveling through the south I remember stopping at a park in Georgia to have lunch. I was thirsty and I was looking around for a drinking fountain and I saw one a little ways off. So I went over there to get a drink and when I went to get a drink I noticed a sign that said Black's only. Right before I started to drink some young black boys came up and pleaded with me to please not drink from that fountain because if any white people saw me drinking there they would be the ones who would get in trouble for allowing a white person to drink from the black water fountain. Having never encountered this type of segregation before I was completely confused and I asked the boys, it's the same water isn't it? And they just continued to say please don't drink here. There's a fountain for whites and they pointed out where I was to go. That was a very eye-opening experience for me. One that to this day I could never understand.
That's the way the dominant racist WHITE SUPREMACISTS/SEGREGATIONISTS organized it to be! Black people had NO Civil Rights throughout the JIM CROW-ERA in the southern region of the USA.....😕

Very interesting to learn more about her. I was surprised that she was not the first to refuse to give up her seat. I do find it very ironic that she handled everything surrounding her arrest with such dignity and grace and yet she parted ways with Martin Luther King Jr because he refused to follow the violent ways of the militants! The policeman's answer said it all: "Why are you doing this?" Answer: "I don't know." People who see things that they know are wrong, need to speak up and speak out!
I was raised in the military, we didn't see any of this bigotry. My siblings and I went to school with all races and I really find it hard to imagine living in the world Rosa had to live in. I do not know how anyone tolerates and perpetuates racism.
