SO, I suffer from a lot of mental illnesses, which can make taking care of myself difficult. For the past few months, though, I've committed myself to eating better as well. So I thought I'd share you some of the useful tips I"ve found:
1.Your blender is your bff . buy some frozen fruit, some plain lowfat yogurt, and some Truvia (which imo is nearly indetectable from actual sugar but has no calories.) For breakfast, grab a handful of frozen fruit (I use strawberries and blueberries) into your blender with some plain yogurt (it'll give you a lot of needed protein to help keep you full), some lowfat milk, and as much sweetner as you want and jsut blend that together. Boom, you've got a delicious drink that'll give you protein and vitamins, but it settles the sweet tooth with the truvia. I do this whenever I feel like I'm hungry and need a snack, but it's particularly good for breakfast. It's quick and its fucking easy as shit.
2. Crock pots can be useful. You can just throw shit in there in the morning, turn it on, and it'll be done by dinner time and you won't have to worry about actually cooking. Throw in some frozen vegetables, some chicken, and some herbs, then put it on and let it cook. you'll have a good dinner by the time it's dinner time.
3. If that's too difficult: lean cuisines. this is essentially what I've been living off of, though I recognize they can be very pricey. There's a great variety, they're pre-portioned, you can just throw them in the microwave and in less than 10 minutes you have a pretty amn good meal. It tends not to be quite enough to keep you full, so have some yogurt or some shit with it.
4.Seltzer waters are a great alternative to soda. They're cheap, theres a great variety of flavors, it's a win-win. The only thing is you're gonna have to power through them intially as they are very much an acquired taste. When you first have them, the lack of any kind of taste-bud profile like sweet which you would be expecting is very off putting. Once you get used to it, though, they're amazing. Another good point is if you accidently spill them everywhere, it's nbd. They won't make everything all gross and sticky.
So those are my tips that I have based on my own commitment to trying to eat better whilst I also struggle with mental illnesses that affect my ability to become motivated and executive dysfunction. Hopefully they'll help some one in who reads this long ass novel of a comment!
