- PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil, May 6, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Authorities in southern Brazil scrambled Sunday to rescue people from raging floods and mudslides in what has become the region's largest ever climate catastrophe, with at least 78 dead and 115,000 forced from their homes.

The government took a long time to help Rio Grande do Sul. they were more worried about football... even the horse that was saved by the firefighters, the 1st lady said that it was the government that saved it and even insisted on saying that the horse was a mare and as a woman it was strong and blah blah blah. The government is trying to cover up what is happening in the south for the rest of Brazil. claiming it's not that big. and amazing! the government minister said it was not time to help the south yet! To make matters worse, they are doing everything to delay the aid they are sending to Rio Grande do Sul, even the Uruguayan government tried to help, but the Lula government denied help from the president of Uruguay.

Well, they keep cutting down the rainforest. Trees soak up their own weight in water when there is a storm, and in hot weather, the heat squeezes the water out providing water for wildlife and agriculture when there is no rainfall. Trees are nature's natural dam and are much more efficient than man made dams. So much flooding is man made - man keeps cutting down the trees!
Stupid, nobody here is cut down any forest. This region where the flooding is happening is thousand of miles away from the rainf forest and the rain forest is closer to Europe and to the Northen Hemisphere than this area. If you don't have anything positive to say just shut up.
What rainforest. This was southern Brazil. If you don´t know Brazilian biomes, better to shut up.

Southern Brazil is grasslands, not a rainforest. The only effect that cutting down trees in northern Brazil, more than 3 thousand kilometers away from this place, has on the rain is that it actually DECREASES it. So yeah, had they cut down more rainforest, maybe the flooding wouldn't be so bad. Obviously they should not though.

Eu moro no interior de São Paulo e me lembro de um dia de 2019 queno céu literalmente escureceu durante o dia , mas NÃO foi por causa de tempestade não, e isso ocorreu praticamente no Estado todo de São Paulo.
