  • Hey everyone, thanks for watching!
WOW Askeladd's backstory was phenomenal and makes so much sense for his story and his relatedness to Thorfinn. Amazing.

"After all, I'm just a Viking". I think this line actually relates a lot to what just happened with Bjorn. He ultimately considered Bjorn to be a true friend, but because Bjorn is a warrior through-and-through, it means Askeladd allowed himself to befriend someone he was supposed to hate on principle. Askeladd lead a band of murdering, pillaging Danes for a decade and participated in the warrior lifestyle for even longer. By "playing the game" he essentially became, in-part, what he hated the most. I think there's an element of self-loathing when it comes to Askeladd. Because he's crossed the lines of his own moral compass to get as far as he could, he knows he's not fit to be a leader or wear the crown of his ancestral hero. He even has this conversation with Bjorn in episode 16: he's out to find someone who he can devote his life and fealty to. That's why he turns to Thors or Canute; someone who takes a different path than the norm.

The line where he thanks thors is deep because throughout the story he never called his fathers name correctly until then. And also for thorfinns usefulness to askeladd over those 10 years.

I've known since the AOT reaction that bro was big brained ...it always shocks me how you're able to make theories as accurate as you do 🔥

Wouldn't say it's becouse Thorfinn is stupid, he just values honour. He could've killed Askeladd by stabbing him in the back or something. But he wanted to defeat Askeladd in a fair fight. Both becouse Thorfinn wants to honour his dad but also becouse Thors died due to an unfair advantage. Thorfinn wont be satisfied by killing Askeladd unless it's a fair fight, like he wish that Thors would've gotten. On the other hand Askeladd didn't care about honour, he just wanted to kill his dad.

That doesn't excuse him from losing his temper in fights and therefore wasting his skills and intellect by being a raging beast

To a certain degree… he is dumb. He is unaware of his mistakes and he cannot resist losing his temper, and he doesn’t realize the consequences of prolonging the pursuit of revenge. Later on he does acknowledge he was an idiot.

Crazy how Askelaad is just like Thorfinn. Joined somebody and was trained by them just in order to kill them. But unlike Thorfinn who was fighting because he loved his dad, askelaad fought because he hated his dad.

If we’re really going to get technical about it then swaniis pronunciation is correct.
Ask • eh • Ladd is another way you could pronounce it in English
But in regards to Norse pronunciation,
Ash • eh • Ladd is correct

Many of the ideas that bring hope to people in this show are arbitrary like Artorius and like Vinland, nobody knows if they exist or not. You will see more of this in season 2 as well.
